Superhydrophobic bio-fibre surfaces with a micro-nano-binary surface structure have been achieved via the surface-confined grafting of glycidyl methacrylate, using a branched "graft-on-graft" architecture, followed by post-functionalisation to obtain fluorinated brushes.

It is widely known the multiple channel acceleration is the most adequate way to save initial beam parameters due to the possibility of decreasing Coulomb forces in intensive input beams. To keep beam initial emittance and divergence for high enough specific value of the injection ion beam during acceleration the input beam should be split on multiple beams and every the micro beam must be scre...

A time resolved study of the behavior of a single beam in photorefractive iron doped indium phosphide is provided down to the microsecond range, showing that infrared beam bending does occur on the micro-second time scale for moderate beam intensities. Two distinct time scales are evidenced, the behavior of which are the sign of two different photorefractive mechanisms.

Objectives. Fournier's gangrene (FG), though rare, is a life-threatening extensive fulminant infection of the genitals, perineum, or abdominal wall caused by a mixture of aerobic and anaerobic micro-organisms. Early and aggressive surgical debridement of the necrotic tissue and complete antibiotic coverage are the gold standards in treating FG. The purpose of our study was to assess the role of...

Many sensor systems in robotics are bio-inspired by similar mechanisms living creatures. Birds frequently use their beaks to grasp and manipulate objects. This work proposes a very lightweight system that emulates bird’s beak, thus allowing flapping aerial robots interact with the environment, as e.g. perform grasping or manipulation tasks. The is composed of flexible link (beam) actuated micro...

Micro-learning (ML) combines micro-content delivery with a sequence of micro interactions which enable users to learn without information overload. This has the potential to enable better learning results in terms of retention of propositional content. Learners familiar with Web2.0 technologies, like Tweets and SMS, expect a personalized learning solution and the KnowledgePulse (KP) system rese...

Olive milling wastewater is a major problem facing the Mediterranean countries producing olive oil like Egypt. In the present study, olive milling wastewater rich with organic phenolic compounds, macro and micro nutrients was used as growing media for cyanobacteria. The cyanobacteria were grown on wastewater to obtain two biofertilizers, one bioformulated from single culture of Spirulina pl...

We experimentally demonstrate collective strong coupling, optical bi-stability (OB) and all-optical switching in a system consisting of ultracold Rb atoms, trapped in a dark magneto-optical trap (DMOT), coupled to an optical Fabry-Perot cavity. The strong coupling is established by measuring the vacuum Rabi splitting (VRS) of a weak onaxis probe beam. The dependence of VRS on the probe beam pow...

Intelligent age estimation via face images has become an important research topic in machine vision and pattern recognition fields because it has a key role in many applications such as customer behavior analysis in a business intelligence system. Age estimation is a process which analyses an individual face image and estimates his/her age based on the year measure. The age estimation process ...

In the present work, the mathematical model of a homogeneous, isotropic thermoelastic double porous micro-beam, based on the Euler-Bernoulli theory is developed in the context of Lord-Shulman [1] theory of thermoelasticity. Laplace transform technique has been used to obtain the expressions for lateral deflection, axial stress, axial displacement, volume fraction field and temperature distribut...
