We consider the phase separation of binary fluids in contact with a surface, which is preferentially wetted by one of the components of the mixture. We review the results available for this problem and present numerical results obtained using a mesoscopic level simulation technique for the three-dimensional problem.
We consider the Euler-Cahn-Hilliard system proposed by Lowengrub and Truskinovsky describing the motion of a binary mixture of compressible fluids. We show that the associated initial-value problem possesses infinitely many global-in-time weak solutions for any finite energy initial data. A modification of the method of convex integration is used to prove the result.
We propose a finite-difference-based lattice Boltzmann model for dense binary mixtures based on the Enskog theory. The model is applicable to a mixture composed of two dense fluids with different shear viscosities. The macroscopic hydrodynamic and diffusion equations are derived from the model through the Chapmann-Enskog procedure. The model is also validated numerically.
The commonly used incompressible phase field models for non-reactive, binary fluids, in which the Cahn-Hilliard equation is used for the transport of phase variables, conserve the total volume of each phase as well as the material volume, but do not conserve the mass of the fluid mixture when the densities of two components are different. In this paper, we formulate the phase field theory for m...
A simple and reliable method for quick estimation of the dielectric constant of a binary solvent mixture is proposed. The validity of the proposed method has been tested for a broad range of binary solvent mixtures
density, viscosity and refractive index of pure, binary and ternary mixtures of diethanolamine (dea) and methyl diethanolamine (mdea) with water have been measured at different temperatures from 288.15 k to 323.15 k at atmospheric pressure. also, this study presents the effects of mixture composition and temperature upon these thermo- physical properties. to measure the density and refractive i...
The bubble-point pressures of two compositions of each of eight binary mixtures have been measured over a temperature range of 270 K to 380 K. Six of the mixtures included pentane, which was mixed with 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluoropropane (R245fa); methyl perfluoropropyl ether (R-E347mcc); 1,1,1,2,2,4,5,5,5-nonafluoro-4-(trifluoromethyl)-3-pentanone; 1,1dichloro-1-fluoroethane (R-141b); trans-1,3,3,3-t...
The gauge cell Monte Carlo method [Neimark and Vishnyakov, J. Chem. Phys. 122, 234108 (2005)] for calculations of chemical potential in dense and strongly inhomogeneous fluids is extended to multicomponent systems. The system of interest is simulated in a sample cell that is placed in chemical contact with several gauge cells of limited capacity, one gauge cell per component. Thus, each compone...
We present a new platform for analytical applications of droplet-based microfluidics in which flowing droplets function not only as isolated reaction flasks, but are also capable of on drop separation and sensing. To demonstrate this, ionic liquids with tunable chemical and physical properties have been selected as designer fluids. We create aqueousionic liquid compound droplets with various st...
