abstract in this thesis at first we comput the determinant of hankel matrix with enteries a_k (x)=?_(m=0)^k??((2k+2-m)¦(k-m)) x^m ? by using a new operator, ? and by writing and solving differential equation of order two at points x=2 and x=-2 . also we show that this determinant under k-binomial transformation is invariant.

In modern activities such as banking, homeland security, information transportation, telecommunication, etc., people work with large and high dimension data sets. But, the higher the dimension the higher the probability that outliers will be present in the data sets. The ability to detect outliers in high dimension multivariate data sets is a challenging task. In this circumstance, robust estim...

The identification of fungicide residues on crop foliage is necessary to make periodic pest management decisions. The determination of fungicide residue identities currently is difficult and time consuming using conventional chemical analysis methods such as gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy. Different fungicide types produce unique electronic aroma signature patterns when headspace volatile...

BACKGROUND The study of length of stay (LOS) outliers is important for the management and financing of hospitals. Our aim was to study variables associated with high LOS outliers and their evolution over time. METHODS We used hospital administrative data from inpatient episodes in public acute care hospitals in the Portuguese National Health Service (NHS), with discharges between years 2000 a...

Outliers have been informally defined as observations in a data set which appear to be inconsistent with the remainder of that set of data, or which deviate so much from other observations so as to arouse suspicions that they were generated by a different mechanism [1]. The identification of outliers can lead to the discovery of useful knowledge and has a number of practical applications. The b...

Large-scale human interaction through, for example, financial markets causes ceaseless random changes in outcome variability, producing frequent and salient outliers that render the outcome distribution more peaked than the Gaussian distribution, and with longer tails. Here, we study how humans cope with this evolutionary novel leptokurtic noise, focusing on the neurobiological mechanisms that ...

The State of Rio Grande do Sul (RS) is the largest producer of oat in Brazil with the aid of consolidated breeding programs, which are constantly releasing new cultivars. The main objectives of this study were to: 1) evaluate the annual genetic progress in grain yield and hectoliter weight of the oat cultivars in RS, with and without fungicide use on aerial parts of plants; and 2) evaluate the ...

Medical image segmentation is often a diicult task due to the low contrast, the low signal/noise ratio and the presence of outliers in images. However, it remains a critical issue for image interpretation, pattern recognition and automatic diagnosis. Deformable models are well-suited for capturing the geometry and the shape variability of anatomical structures from medical images. Indeed, they ...

Medical imaging datasets used in clinical studies or basic research often comprise highly variable multi-subject data. Statistically-controlled inclusion of a subject in a group study, i.e. deciding whether its images should be considered as samples from a given population or whether they should be rejected as outlier data, is a challenging issue. While the informal approaches often used do not...

This paper investigates the problem of local surface reconstruction and best fitting for planar surfaces from unorganized 3D point cloud data. Least Squares (LS), its equivalent Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and RANSAC are the three most popular techniques for fitting planar surfaces to 3D data. LS and PCA are sensitive to outliers and do not give reliable and robust parameter estimation. ...
