Aeromonas hydrophila secretes several extracellular proteins including enterotoxin, hemolysin and aerolysin that are associated with the bacterial virulence. Previous studies have shown that two hemolytic toxins, hemolysin A and aerolysin A contribute to the virulence of Aeromonas hydrophila. In the current study, a total of 50 strains of Aeromonas hydrophila, including 28 (56%) strains isolate...
BACKGROUND: Hemolytic anemia is a disorder characterized by the premature erythrocytes destruction. Phenylhydrazine (PHZ) induces oxidative stress and reactive oxygen species (ROS) formation, which causes hemolytic anemia. Cynara scolymus due to its antioxidant compounds, has been used for various therapeutic purposes in traditional medicine. OBJECTIVES: The present study was designed to evalua...
To analyze the biocompatibility of scaffold produced from a natural polymer derived castor oil through hemolytic activity and antimicrobial activity, to enable clinical application. Three in vitro tests were performed: Hemolytic test - Polymer partially dissolved contact with blood agar; sheep's extract red cells solution; Antimicrobial Solid direct E. Coli S. Aureus. For tests, none samples sh...
The ability of streptolysin S preparations to induce high percentages of transformation in human peripheral blood lymphocytes was confirmed in a series of apparently healthy donors. Transforming activity was not demonstrated in the two media used for streptolysin S production, nor in control preparations in which a strain each of Streptococcus viridans, Staphylococcus aureus (nonhemolytic), and...
OBJECTIVES The alkoxyacetic acids (AAAs) are urinary metabolites of alkoxyethanol solvents. It is well documented that these chemicals can cause acute hemolytic anemia in humans and laboratory animals. There are scarce data on the relative hemolytic activity of these acids. Likewise, information is lacking on the relationship between their hemolytic activity and physicochemical properties. The ...

The hemolytic lectin CEL-III and its site-directed mutants were expressed in Escherichia coli cells. Replacement of the valine clusters in domain 3 with alanine residues led to increased self-oligomerization in solution and higher hemolytic activity. The results suggest the involvement of these valine clusters in CEL-III oligomerization and hemolytic activity.
We investigated the hemolytic activity of Escherichia coli strain EC901 carrying plasmid pBJN406 containing genes draA-E involved in expression of the mannose-resistant Dr hemagglutinin, and in its isogenic insertion mutants devised with Tn5, Tn3, and TnphoA. While E. coli BN406 displayed rapid hemolytic activity against equine erythrocytes, insertion mutations in draD and draE, but not in draA...
Machine learning models trained with experimental data for antimicrobial activity and hemolysis are shown to produce new non-hemolytic peptides active against multidrug-resistant bacteria.
Hemolysins have been found to possess a variety of functions in bacteria, including a role in virulence. Helicobacter pylori demonstrates hemolytic activity when cultured on unlysed blood agar plates which is increased under iron-limiting conditions. However, the role of an H. pylori hemolysin in virulence is unclear. Scrutiny of the H. pylori 26695 genome sequence suggests the presence of at l...
