Resistance of group B streptococcus to selected antibiotics, including erythromycin and clindamycin.
Resistance of group B streptococcus (GBS) to antibiotics, particularly erythromycin and clindamycin, was studied. Erythromycin resistance was present in 22% of GBS isolates, and these isolates were constitutively resistant, inducibly resistant, or sensitive to clindamycin. Erythromycin and clindamycin MICs were related to the presence of ermA, ermB, or mefA genes.
We studied the antimicrobial susceptibility of 322 Streptococcus pyogenes throat isolates from French children and their serotype and genomic diversity. A total of 22.4% were erythromycin resistant, and 69.4, 4.2, and 26.4% of these isolates harbored ermB, ermA, and mefA, respectively. Increasing resistance in France is mainly associated with a few emm type 28 clones.
Among 78 erythromycin-resistant group B streptococcus (GBS) isolates from Korea, ermB was detected in 58 (74.4%), mefA was detected in 14 (17.9%), and ermTR was detected in 6 (7.7%). The most prevalent serotypes of erythromycin-resistant GBS were V (detected in 34 isolates [43.6%]) and III (detected in 33 isolates [42.3%]). All serotype V erythromycin-resistant GBS harbored the ermB gene.
A total of 322 erythromycin-resistant pneumococci from TRUST 3 and TRUST 4 United States surveillance studies (1999-2000) were screened for 23S rRNA, L4, and L22 gene mutations. Nineteen isolates, two with mefA, had mutations at position 2058 or 2059 in 23S rRNA. Two had a 69GTG71-to-TPS substitution in L4; one of these also contained ermA.
Objective(s): Macrolide resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae pose an emerging problem globally. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of ermB and mefA genes (macrolide resistant genes) by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method and to detect drug resistance patterns of S. pneumoniae isolated from clinical samples to macrolides and other antibiotic agents by E-test method. Materia...

The use of biochar to stabilize soil contaminants is emerging as a technique for remediation contaminated soils. In this study, an environmental assessment systems where produced from wood waste with energy recovery used soils polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) and metal(loid)s was performed. Two options (on- off-site) are considered compared landfilling. combined material flow analysis (ME...
