BACKGROUND Extra-adrenal, intra-abdominal paraganglioma constitutes a rare neoplasm and, moreover, its location in the greater omentum is extremely infrequent. CASE PRESENTATION A 46-year-old woman with an unremarkable medical history presented with an asymptomatic greater omentum mass that was discovered incidentally during ultrasonographic evaluation due to menstrual disturbances. Clinical ...

BACKGROUND Inflammatory bowel disease is characterized by persistent inflammation of the intestinal tissues. Although the usage of biologics has greatly enhanced the management of this disorder, a permanent treatment does not exist. In this study, we investigated whether the cells with anti-inflammatory and healing properties from the omentum could be harnessed to treat colitis in dextran sulfa...

We made simultaneous measurements of intravascular pressure and red blood cell velocity for vessels which make up the modular configuration of microvascular networks in mesentery and omentum. An analysis of these variables and the computed volumetric flow rates is presented for arterioles which had a maximum diameter of 56 micrometer through the "true capillaries" (typically 7 micrometer for me...

Unusual pathologies are occasionally found at laparoscopy when appendicitis is suspected. We present a case of strangulated inflammatory fibrous pseudotumour of the omentum presenting in a similar fashion to appendicitis. The infarcted omentum was excised, facilitating prompt resolution of symptoms.

Abstract The omentum, a visceral adipose tissue, is frequent site of metastasis for gastric and ovarian cancers. Advanced cancer almost always metastasizes to the omentum. Currently available therapies do not control tumor growth long-term there recurrence metastasis. In mice, cells injected intraperitoneally implant in omentum grow progressively despite tumor-specific CD8 T cells. lack effecti...

Although the omentum remains an enigmatic organ, research during the last decades has revealed its fascinating functions including fat storage, fluid drainage, immune activity, angiogenesis and adhesion. While clinicians both in human and veterinary medicine are continuously exploring new potential omental applications, detailed anatomical data on the canine omentum are currently lacking, and i...

A malignant solitary fibrous tumor arising from the omentum is extremely rare. To our knowledge, this is the first case of a malignant solitary fibrous omentum tumor coexisting with uterine corpus cancer. A 62-year-old woman presented to our hospital with vaginal discharge. Endometrioid adenocarcinoma was diagnosed by endometrial curettage. In addition, a solid tumor in front of the uterus was ...

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are the most common mesenchymal tumors of the gastrointestinal tract. These tumors tend to present most frequently in the stomach, followed by the small intestine. GISTs can also arise from the omentum, retroperitoneum, mesentery, or pleura and are termed extragastrointestinal stromal tumors (EGISTs) when they do so. EGISTs arising from the omentum are ve...

Ovarian cancer has a clear predilection for metastasis to the omentum, but the underlying mechanisms involved in ovarian cancer spread are not well understood. Here, we used a parabiosis model that demonstrates preferential hematogenous metastasis of ovarian cancer to the omentum. Our studies revealed that the ErbB3-neuregulin 1 (NRG1) axis is a dominant pathway responsible for hematogenous ome...
