Abstract Background and objectives: Hepatitis C virus (HCV), Human immuno deficiency virus (HIV) and Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) are the three main agents of Communicable disorders transmitted by blood transfusion. The survey of these virus-caused infections in Blood donors can display epidemiology of infections in province and be useful for evaluating donors’ health. The aim of this study wa...
The rate of transfusion-transmitted hepatitis E virus (HEV) in transplant recipients is unknown. We identified 60 HEV-positive solid organ transplant patients and retrospectively assessed their blood transfusions for HEV. Seven of 60 patients received transfusions; 3 received HEV-positive blood products. Transfusion is not the major route of infection in this population.
Blood donations in England and Wales are collected from healthy donors who do not acknowledge factors associated with an increased risk of bloodborne infections. All donations issued for transfusion since the early 1970s have been tested for hepatitis B surface antigen as a marker of transmissible hepatitis B virus. These measures have resulted in low rates of transmission by transfusion but ha...
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Transfusion-transmitted virus (TTV), a recently discovered DNA virus, was first identified in patients with non-A to -G hepatitis following blood transfusion. Transmission is generally via the parenteral route but recent data suggest that TTV can also be transmitted by the fecal-oral route. METHODS This cross-sectional study was conducted in March 2005 and included 324 ...
Background & Aims: Today, an important challenge of the Blood Transfusion Organization is the preparation, distribution, and monitoring of the appropriate use of blood and blood products. Therefore, estimation of the prevalence of transfusion transmitted infections (TTIs) and efficiency of appropriate screening methods is essential. The purpose of the present study was the det...
background and aims: human parvovirus b19, a member of the parvoviridae family, with single-stranded dna is a very minute non-enveloped virus. b 19 virus is mostly transmitted via the respiratory tract but some studies have been reported which b19 virus can be transmitted through blood and/or blood products. the aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of b19 among blood donors in tehra...
Torque Teno virus (TTV) is a transfusion transmitted virus that seems to be involved in several complications such as acute respiratory diseases, liver diseases, AIDS, cancer, and autoimmune reactions. In the present study the frequency of TTV was investigated among β- thalassemia (BT) and haemodialysis (HD) patients (high risk patients for TTV) in Mazandaran province, Iran. DNA was ...
