The majority of the dehydrogenases of mammalian mitochondria are linked to the respiratory chain (cytochrome system) by way of pyridine nucleotides. Although the intramitochondrial pyridine nucleotide appears to be tightly bound in intact mitochondrial preparations (1) and thus does not function as a mobile coenzyme, the requirement of these dehydrogenases for added diphosphopyridine nucleotide...
Six nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD)-dependent lactic dehydrogenases, four specific for D(-) lactate and two specific for L(+) lactate have been purified from different Lactobacillus species. Four of these enzymes appeared to be pure by several criteria. Some of the physical and catalytic properties of these enzymes are described and compared with those previously reported for the Dand L...
Walker, Hazel (University of Georgia, Athens), and R. G. Eagon. Lactic dehydrogenases of Pseudomonas natriegens. J. Bacteriol. 88:25-30. 1964.-Lactic dehydrogenases specific for d- and l-lactate were demonstrated in Pseudomonas natriegens. The l-lactic dehydrogenase showed considerable heat stability, and 40% of the activity remained in extracts after heating at 60 C for 10 min. An essential th...
The aim of the research was to compare the effects of various petroleum products, biodiesel, diesel oil, fuel oil and unleaded petrol on soil dehydrogenases, and to evaluate biostimulation with compost and urea in the restoration of homeostasis of the soil contaminated with these products. The obtained results allowed for defining the weight of dehydrogenases in monitoring of the environment su...
The properties of crystalline rabbit muscle (1) and yeast (2) triosephosphate dehydrogenases have been studied extensively (3). Velick and Udenfriend (4) have compared some of the properties of the two enzymes. They reported that, although the two enzymes have similar molecular weights and similar amino acid distributions with only small variations, there are differences in the internal structu...
Nicotine adenine dinucleotide-linked primary alcohol dehydrogenase and a newly discovered secondary alcohol dehydrogenase coexist in most strains of methanol-grown yeasts. Alcohol dehydrogenases from methanol-grown yeasts oxidize (--)-2-butanol preferentially over its (+) enantiomorph. This is substantially different from alcohol dehydrogenases from bakers' yeast and horse liver.
Slime production by bacterium W3A1 was greatly enhanced during growth on methanol and, to a lesser extent, during growth on trimethylamine. Of the major dehydrogenases synthesized, trimethylamine and methylamine dehydrogenases were induced to different levels by certain carbon sources, while methanol dehydrogenase was expressed during growth on all carbon sources.
Three straight chain acyl-CoA dehydrogenases were purified to apparent homogeneity from bovine liver using 40-70% (NH4)2SO4 precipitation, gel filtration, DEAE-cellulose column chromatography, and preparative electrophoresis. Separation of the acyl-CoA dehydrogenases by these procedures has been efficiently monitored by two newly developed analytical methods: (i) native staining of acyl-CoA deh...
3-Ketosteroid Δ1-dehydrogenase catalyzes the 1(2)-dehydrogenation of 3-ketosteroid substrates using flavin adenine dinucleotide as a cofactor. The enzyme plays crucial role in microbial steroid degradation, both under aerobic and anaerobic conditions, by initiating opening nucleus. Indeed, many microorganisms are known to possess one or more Δ1-dehydrogenases. In pharmaceutical industry, activi...
