Abstract Background Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) is the fundament of various studies, providing insights into questions from biology and medicine. Nevertheless, integrating data different experimental backgrounds can introduce strong biases. In order to methodically investigate magnitude systematic errors in single nucleotide variant calls, we performed a cross-sectional observational study...

Porphyrobacter dokdonensis strain DSW-74, isolated from seawater off of Dokdo, Republic of Korea, is a member of the family Erythrobacteraceae In this study, the genome sequence of DSW-74 was determined using the Illumina HiSeq 2000 platform and assembled into 11 contigs. Its genome is approximately 3.0 Mb with a G+C content of 64.8%, in which 2,875 protein-coding sequences and 47 RNA genes wer...

Sunxiuqinia dokdonensis DH1(T) was isolated from deep sub-seafloor sediment at a depth of 900 m below the seafloor off Seo-do (the west part of Dokdo Island) in the East Sea of the Republic of Korea and subjected to whole genome sequencing on HiSeq platform and annotated on RAST. The nucleotide sequence of this genome was deposited into DDBJ/EMBL/GenBank under the accession LGIA00000000.

We introduce an improved version of RECKONER, an error corrector for Illumina whole genome sequencing data. By modifying its workflow we reduce the computation time even 10 times. We also propose a new method of determination of k-mer length, the key parameter of k-spectrum-based family of correctors. The correction algorithms are examined on huge data sets, i.e., human and maize genomes for bo...

This paper presents the first draft genome of the tule elk (Cervus elaphus ), a subspecies native to California that underwent an extreme nannodes genetic bottleneck in the late 1800s. The genome was generated from Illumina HiSeq 3000 whole genome sequencing of four individuals, resulting in the assembly of 2.395 billion base pairs (Gbp) over 602,862 contigs over 500 bp and N50 = 6,885 bp. Thi...
