The morphological lexicon is an important part of NLP systems which is typ ically hand written with the help of linguist experts Even a partial automation of this process could decrease the cost of the lexicon being of theoretical impor tance for languages and dialects which have not been well analysed yet In this work we describe an attempt to use the minimal description length MDL as the one ...

SUMMARY This paper addresses the problem of learning Bayesian belief networks (BBN) based on the minimum description length (MDL) principle. First, we give a formula of description length based on which the MDL-based procedure learns a BBN. Secondly, we point out that the difference between the MDL-based and Cooper and Herskovits procedures is essentially in the priors rather than in the approa...

Genetic and simulated annealing algorithms have been used to solve many combinatorial problems. Their results are proven to be efficient in solving such problems. The running time of these techniques is generally less than the run time needed to find the optimal solution. However, in very large-scale problems such as sensor deployment, their running time is extremely slow. In this paper, we int...

In this paper, it was an attempt to be present a practical perishability inventory model. The proposed model adds using spoilage of products and variable prices within a time period to a recently published location-inventory-routing model in order to make it more realistic. Aforementioned model by integration of strategic, tactical and operational level decisions produces better results for sup...

An efficient assignment and scheduling of tasks is one of the key elements in effective utilization of heterogeneous multiprocessor systems. The task scheduling problem has been proven to be NP-hard is the reason why we used meta-heuristic methods for finding a suboptimal schedule. In this paper we proposed a new approach using TRIZ (specially 40 inventive principles). The basic idea of thi...

115 couples with consanguineous marriage, who had experienced reported abortions or still births either in their close relatives (3 couples) or themselves (1 couple) were exposed to genetic counseling (at the shahid akbarabadi hospital) cytogenetic studied were carried out using both conventional staining and g.t.g banding for all the cases studied. the investigation demonstrated various forms ...

Segmentationlbindinglorganization is a problem at the heart of machine and human vision. There are various approaches to this problem, such as local filtering[l], region competition[2], MDL (minimum description length) method[3], global energy optimi-zation[4], and correlation theory of the brain[5]. In this paper, we see visual representation as building descriptions of MDL and formulate segme...

This paper describes a new approach to the analysis of Poisson point processes, in time (1D) or space (2D), which is based on the minimum description length (MDL) framework. Specifically, we describe a fully unsupervised recursive segmentation algorithm for 1D and 2D observations. Experiments illustrate the good performance of the proposed methods.

We propose a simple algorithm for improving the MDL (minimum description length) estimator of the number of sources of signals impinging on multiple sensors. The algorithm is based on the norms of vectors whose elements are the normalized and nonlinearly scaled eigenvalues of the received signal covariance matrix and the corresponding normalized indexes. Such norms are used to discriminate the ...
