Oral glucose tolerance test with 50g glucose was carried out with and without simultaneous oral administration of 3g calcium lactate. Blood sugar and serum immunoreactive insulin (IRI) were measured before and 30, 60, 90 and 120min after glucose load in 11 diabetics and 11 non-diabetics. Similar oral glucose tolerance test was performed with and without intravenous administration of 10ml 8.5% c...

Background & Aims: irritant stimuli cause a pain response in neonates and neglecting this pain may cause severe long term adverse effects for the neonates. Several pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic methods have been suggested for reducing neonatal pain but few comprehensive studies have compared these methods. This study compares the efficacy of three different methods for reducing neonatal ...

the aim of the present study was to determine the in?uence of presence or absence of corpus luteum (cl) on hormonal and metabolites composition of follicular ?uid (ff) harvested from different sized follicles and its relationship with blood serum concentrations in sanjabi ewes. ovaries and blood samples were collected from 60 clinically healthy adult ewes (sanjabi breed) 1–3 years of age in dio...

OBJECTIVE Insulin causes capillary recruitment in muscle and adipose tissue, but the metabolic and microvascular effects of insulin in the skin have not been studied in detail. The aim of this study was to measure glucose metabolism and microvascular blood flow in the skin during local insulin delivery and after an oral glucose load. METHODS Microdialysis catheters were inserted intracutanous...

Introduction Contraception is a method of avoiding unplanned pregnancy. Combined oral contraceptives (COCs) have become prominent birth control due to their contraceptive efficacy and acceptability profile. The use pills (OCPs) linked several health advantages as well problems. Oral can alter carbohydrate lipid metabolism, including increased in blood glucose, triglyceride, low density lipoprot...

The simultaneous assessment of insulin action, secretion, and hepatic extraction is key to understanding postprandial glucose metabolism in nondiabetic and diabetic humans. We review the oral minimal method (i.e., models that allow the estimation of insulin sensitivity, β-cell responsivity, and hepatic insulin extraction from a mixed-meal or an oral glucose tolerance test). Both of these oral t...

INTRODUCTION Every newborn infant is screened for hypothyroidism and phenylketonuria by blood sampling, during the first week of life, but there is not a simple and efficient method to reduce pain during the procedure. OBJECTIVES Prospective randomised trial, to assess if the administration of oral glucose, paracetamol or EMLA, given individually, can reduce the pain caused in newborns by hee...

The antidiabetic activity of Balanites roxburghii was carried out in normal and alloxan-induced diabetic rats. Oral administration of methanolic extract of kernals (0.1 and 0.3g/kg body weight) significantly lowered the blood glucose levels. The activity can be attributed to reducing the intestinal absorption of glucose. The activity reported was dose-dependent.

BACKGROUND/AIMS Postprandial hyperglycemia, an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease, is accompanied by endothelial dysfunction. We studied the effect of oral glucose load on insulin and glucose fluctuations, and on postprandial endothelial function in healthy individuals in order to better understand and cope with the postprandial state in insulin resistant individuals. METHODS ...

INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES Traditionally, the oral glucose tolerance test has been useful to diagnose unknown diabetes. Recently, the American Diabetes Association committee has accepted glycated hemoglobin ≥ 6.5% as a criterion for unknown diabetes. The aim was to determine the benefit of glycated hemoglobin for diagnosing unknown diabetes and also create a predictive model that adjusts the i...
