We present a brief review on the canonical transformation description of some duality symmetries in string and gauge theories. In particular, we consider abelian and non-abelian T-dualities in closed and open string theories as well as S-duality in abelian and non-abelian non-supersymmetric gauge theories. THU-96/36 hep-th/9610024 October 1996 Talk given at the Argonne Duality Institute, June 2...
We report about a recently started project with the aim to compute hybrid static potentials using lattice gauge theory. First preliminary results for pure SU(2) Yang-Mills theory are presented.
The ηL(1410) component of the η(1440) pseudoscalar has strong affinity for glue. But its mass is incompatible with lattice simulations that predict a much higher value for the 0 glueball. Consequently it has been suggested that ηL(1410) signals physics beyond the Standard Model. Here we argue that if glueballs are closed gluonic fluxtubes then ηL(1410) is a prime candidate for the 0 −+ glueball...
The deconfinement transition in SU(4) lattice gauge theory is investigated on N s × Nt lattices for Ns = 8–16 and Nt = 4–8 using a modified Wilson action which is expected to be free of any bulk transitions. The susceptibility χ |L| , where L is the order parameter for deconfinement, is found to increase linearly with spatial volume for Nt = 4, 5, and 6, indicating a first order deconfinement p...
We summarize the theory and phenomenology of the Color Glass Condensate reviewed previously by E. Iancu and the author in hep-ph/0303204. In addition, we discuss some of the subsequent developments in the past year both in theory and in phenomenological applications.
The Burgers vector b with components (1.1) is teated as a vector of a special space, it is called the Burgers space. The Burgers space is an imaginary space, it is assumed to be filled with the infinite ideal (non-distorted) crystalline grid. The tensor T̂ in (1.1) is a double space tensor : its upper index i is associated with some Cartesian coordinate system in the Burgers space, its lower ind...
We point out missing links in the recent paper by Tomboulis in which he claims a rigorous proof of quark confinement in 4D lattice gauge theory. We also discuss if it is possible to correct his proof.
Let g be a diametric gauge over a metric space (X, p). It is proved, in this paper, that the upper gauge density D (A, x) = 0 for almost all points of the complement of A provided that A is in a certain family which contains all Borel sets of finite measure. Also, a relation between conditions for a diametric gauge and certain regularity conditions is given.
