A methodology for the development of PM using the modern approaches of FMEA, root-cause analysis, and fault-tree analysis is presented. Applying PM leads to a cost reduction in maintenance and less overall energy expenditure. Implementation of PM is preferable to the present reactive maintenance procedures (still prevalent in Nigeria). 2006 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

In any organization, the importance of failuremanagement cannot bementionedby a single word. However, most failure analysis is dominated by themanufacturing sector, despite the increasing importance of the service sector. In response, this paper proposes a systematic approach for identifying and evaluating potential failures using a service-specific failure mode and effect analysis (service-spec...

Evaluating the sustainability risk level of public–private partnership (PPP) projects can reduce project risk incidents and achieve the sustainable development of the organization. However, the existing studies about PPP projects risk management mainly focus on exploring the impact of financial and revenue risks but ignore the sustainability risks, causing the concept of “sustainability” to be ...

In the present paper, a complete process from reliability evaluation to design modification is proposed and also applied to a newly designed and manufactured Remotely Piloted Helicopter (RPH) by the authors. First of all, a description of all platform subsystems is presented. After that, function diagram and also product tree of the whole system is depicted for further analysis. Then, the relia...

This paper provides a method based on information theory for risk analysis and evaluation. A basic method to construction site risk evaluation by Shannon entropy is used. Safety and technical risk of the building construction process has been calculated by Shannon’s entropy which provides information of the system, of various kinds under uncertainties. The method has been applied to a case stud...

This article presents the comparison of SingleGate SOI and Multi-Gate SOI MOSFETs. In the first part we have presented two main fundamental problems of the “ultimate” (sub-10-nm) MOSFET scaling of Single-Gate geometry: the exponential growth of power consumption and sensitivity to fabrication uncertainties. These factors have played the decisive role in for eventual transfer of the CMOS industr...

Aims. We present VRi photometric observations of the quadruply imaged quasar HE0435-1223, carried out with the Danish 1.54 m telescope at the La Silla Observatory. Our aim was to monitor and study the magnitudes and colors of each lensed component as a function of time. Methods. We monitored the object during two seasons (2008 and 2009) in the VRi spectral bands, and reduced the data with two i...

Qualitative simulation interpreted by the use of functional labels to identify significant system behaviour has been shown to be a useful technique for automating design analysis tasks such a Failure Modes and Effects Analysis. However, increasing sophistication of the systems to be analysed means that it is becoming increasingly important that the correct timing of these system functions be in...

Failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) is a method based on teamwork to identify potential failures and problems in a system, design, process and service in order to remove them. The important part of this method is determining the risk priorities of failure modes using the risk priority number (RPN). However, this traditional RPN method has several shortcomings. Therefore, in this paper we p...
