The determinants of health are those factors that have the potential to affect health, either positively or negatively, and include a range of personal, social, economic, and environmental factors. In the practice of health impact assessment (HIA), the stage at which the determinants of health are considered for inclusion is during the scoping step. The scoping step is intended to identify how ...
The nine health impact assessment (HIA) case studies in this issue represent a considerable contribution to the HIA literature and provide a number of lessons. These lessons include the value of using evidence in HIA to aid decision-making; the various forms that stakeholder and community involvement in HIA can take; and the fact that HIA can act as a catalyst for intersectoral engagement. They...
In today’s competitive market environment, pharmaceutical companies have learned that improving supply chain performance is critical to maintain competitive advantages. Forecasting, planning, procurement, financing, stock levels, and marketing strategies are some of the areas in which managers have to decide about them and balance their enter-related effects simultaneously, to achieve organizat...
This study presents an empirical evidence concerning the comparison of the dynamics of competitiveness in the creative and manufacturing industries. It investigated the impact of the economic crisis in the behavior of the competitiveness of those industries. The samples were 42 firms taken from 3 sub-sectors of the creative industries and 3 sub-sectors of the manufacturing industries listed in...
We study the dynamic response of stretched thin polymeric films following an impact by a rigid sphere. We vary the sphere radius, the impact velocity, and the film tension, and measure the contact time and the maximum deflection of the film during the impact. The response is sensitive to nonlinearities associated with the additional tension provided by the deformation. A physical model at the s...
The value of health impact assessment (HIA) to sectors outside the health domain is increasingly being recognised. A Victorian study explored the application of HIA within a regeneration context. What emerged is a complex analysis of the practical dimensions of applying HIA in this context.
This paper investigates whether advertising has a beneficial or deleterious impact on the demand for magazine subscriptions. If consumers consider advertising a ‘bad,’ publishers must subsidize consumers through lower subscription prices or additional editorial content. If advertising is a ‘good,’ then consumers are willing to pay because it adds value to the magazine bundle. We employ data des...
AIMS Implementation of Health Impact Assessment (HIA) in Danish municipalities has been analyzed using the Roger's Diffusion of Innovation Theory. Municipalities were chosen from among those who presented their health policies on websites according to the status of inclusion of HIA into health policy. METHODS Qualitative interviews were conducted in 6 municipalities (3 with HIA inducted in th...
A calculational procedure is formulated for extracting differential cross sections in the ejected energy from a time-dependent wave-packet method for the electron ionization of hydrogen. The procedure is applied to an s-wave model for electron-hydrogen scattering. In contrast to recent time-independent methods, the differential cross sections are found to be smooth and symmetric. @S1050-2947~97...
