SETTING Nationwide Canadian public health surveillance. OBJECTIVE Description of demographic features and disease characteristics of drug-resistant tuberculosis (TB) in Canada over a 12 year period. DESIGN Continuous surveillance of all cases of culture-confirmed TB in Canada. Demographic and microbiologic features were analyzed and comparisons between drug-susceptible, multidrug-resistant ...

Although, generally speaking, haematological malignancies are chemotherapy-responsive tumours and high remission induction rates are obtained, disease-related death is the rule rather than the exception. The appearance of cell populations, resistant to multidrug-based chemotherapy, constitutes the major problem to achieve cures in these patients. Advances in cell biology have partly contributed...

Objective: Almost all year round occurrence of typhoid fever remains a major public health issue in Bangladesh. In recent years, there has been significant rise the prevalence multi-drug resistance Salmonella typhi Dhaka city. The objective this study was to observe and Extended drug-resistant patterns typhoidal among patients attending tertiary medical center by conventional culture serologic ...

Background and purpose: Acinetobacter is a pathogen that could cause nosocomial infections. The present study aimed at determining Acinetobacter cases in clinical cultures of patients hospitalized in Tabriz Imam Reza Hospital to determine the frequency of the most common oxa genes causing drug resistance in these specimens. Materials and methods: In this descriptive cross-sectional study, cli...

the emergence of multi-drug resistant strains of pseudomonas aeruginosa has complicated treatment decision and may lead to treatment failures. in this study, we describe the trends of drug-resistant p. aeruginosa isolated in blood cultures from patients detected in a tertiary teaching hospital and evaluated the prevalence of resistance to amikacin, ampicillin, carbeni- cillin, cefixime, cefotax...

Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa) bacteremia causes significant mortality rate due to emergence of multidrug resistant (MDR) nosocomial infections. We report the draft genome sequence of P. aeruginosa strain VRFPA09, a human bloodstream isolate, phenotypically proven as MDR strain. Whole genome sequencing on VRFPA09, deciphered betalactamase encoding blav(eb-1) and bla(OXA-10) genes and mu...

Three independent variants (G2, G4, G5), resistant to methylglyoxal bis(guanylhydrazone), an anticancer drug, have been isolated by single step selection from an adenovirus-transformed rat brain cell line (1). These variants display selective cross-resistance to several natural product drugs of dissimilar structure and action. Multidrug resistance has recently been shown to be caused by overexp...

Background: Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis (DR-TB) is one of the major public health issues globally. Zambia highly burdened by TB and multi-drug resistant TB. In this study, sputum samples obtained from new previously treated cases were examined for drug-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB). Methods: Sputum specimens processed using N-acetyl-L-cysteine-sodium hydroxide method, stained fluor...

PII: S0968-0004(00)01668-6 SYSTEMIC CHEMOTHERAPY WITH cytotoxic drugs is a widely used treatment that improves long-term survival of cancer patients. Yet, it has been estimated that only ~10% of chemotherapy-treated patients are ultimately cured1. The main reason for the limited efficacy of chemotherapy i...

Herein, we identify vceC as a component of a vceCAB operon, which codes for the Vibrio cholerae VceAB multiple-drug resistance (MDR) efflux pump, and vceR, which codes for a transcriptional autoregulatory protein that negatively regulates the expression of the vceCAB operon and is modulated by some of the substrates of this MDR efflux pump.
