We describe a case of a giant thrombosed intrasellar internal carotid artery aneurysm initially diagnosed as pituitary macroadenoma. The differentiating neuroimaging features were discussed.
A woman with pituitary macroadenoma causing pressure symptoms and a partial right third cranial nerve palsy during pregnancy is described. Complete resolution occurred using oral bromocriptine therapy alone and the remainder of the pregnancy was uneventful.
Occlusion of intracranial arteries by a pituitary adenoma with ensuing infarction is a rare occurrence. In this case study, we show the instance of a pituitary macroadenoma and apoplexy causing mechanical obstruction of the internal carotid artery with consequent infarction following transphenoidal surgery (TSS) and radiation therapy in a patient with Cushing's disease. We report a 44-year-old ...
Abstract Background: Hyponatremia is a common electrolyte abnormality, investigating the etiology can be challenging to clinician, especially when cause has rarely been associated with hyponatremia. Macroprolactinoma reported as of We are reporting case macroprolactinoma presenting Care Report: A 67 year old female previously healthy female, presented fall due syncopal episode. OBJECTIVE Several reports have described antipituitary antibodies by immunofluorescent or immunoblotting methods in patients with lymphocytic hypophysitis. However, with the exception of the pituitary hormones, individual antigens specific for the pituitary gland have not been studied. To understand the pathogenesis of lymphocytic hypophysitis and to diagnose this disease efficiently, we studie...
Abstract Hyperprolactinemia occurs along with many physiological and non-physiological factors. The most important non-physiological pathologic cause of this disorder is prolactin-secreting tumor or prolactinoma. It is one of the common causes of hypogondism and infertility in women and a common pituitary tumor in men leading to visual impairment and impotency. Dopamine agonists are effective f...
Pituitary-induced bilateral adrenocortical hyperplasia also known as pituitary-dependent Cushing's disease (PDH) accounts for about 85% of all cases of spontaneous hypercortisolism in the dog. It results from either an adenohypophyseal ACTH-secreting microor macroadenoma or from excess pituitary ACTH secretion due to oversecretion of corticotrophin releasing factor (CRF) by the hypothalamus. Th...
A middle aged primigravida was managed at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Enugu, Nigeria for a pituitary macroadenoma. She was admitted at 33 weeks gestational age following a history of blurred vision and generalized headache, worse on bending down. After neurological consultation and investigations, a diagnosis of pituitary macroadenoma with mass effect was entertained. A plan fo...
Radiation treatment in the management of pituitary adenoma in children is still a controversy due to the great concern of late radiation effect. Stereotactic radiation therapy is the modern radiation technique that is more widely applicable in pituitary adenoma because of the ability to give highly conformal radiation to the target organ and to reduce the radiation dose to normal tissue. A 15-y...
Lymphocytic hypophysitis is an inflammatory /autoimmune disorder that primarily involves the pituitary gland and the pituitary stalk. The common clinical presentations include headache, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, features of hypopituitarism and diabetes insipidus as well as diplopia, orbital pain and bitemporal hemianopia. We report a case of lymphocytic hypophysitis which presented as hemichor...
