We first outline the calculations of the neutron-proton mass difference and of the axial singlet matrix element (relevant to the “proton spin” puzzle) in a generalized Skyrme model of pseudoscalars and vectors. These two calculations are, perhaps surprisingly, linked to each other and furthermore are sensitive to some fine details of symmetry breaking in the effective meson Lagrangian. This pro...

We show how the nearly bi-maximal mixing scenario comes out naturally from gauged SO(3) F flavor symmetry via spontaneous symmetry breaking. An interesting relation between the neutrino mass-squared differences and the mixing angle, i.e., ∆m 2 µe /∆m 2 τ µ ≃ 2|U e3 | 2 is obtained. The smallness of the ratio (or |U e3 |) can also naturally be understood from an approximate permutation symmetry....

The title polymeric mixed-organyl tin hydroxide, [Sn(C(6)H(5))(2)(C(6)H(11))(OH)](n), hass a hydroxide-bridged chain structure; the tin center shows trans-C(3)SnO(2) trigonal bipyramidal coordination. The Sn atom lies on a special position of site symmetry m; the symmetry element relates one phenyl ring to the other and also relates one half of the cyclo-hexyl ring to the other half.

It is shown that each element σ in the normalizer of the automorphism group Aut(G) of a simple graph G with labeled vertex set V is an Aut(G) invariant isomorphism between G and the graph obtained from G by the σ permutation of V—i.e., σ is a hidden permutation symmetry of G. A simple example illustrates the theory and the applied notion of system robustness for reconfiguration under symmetry c...

Using an anisotropic hybridization matrix element, V(~k), reflecting cubic symmetry at the “rare-earth” sites of the infinite U Anderson lattice, we calculate the bare quasiparticle scattering amplitude to order 1/N using slave Bosons and find significant differences with previous results under spherical symmetry. Due to exchange of density fluctuations, we find an instability. toward Eg and T1...

For synchronous 3 phase electrical generator machine design, the ability to predict the subtransient reactance of a particular machine design is of prime importance. The subtransient reactance has a significant impact on the magnitude of the fault currents generated within the machine during an event such as a 3 phase short-circuit. Power system designers routinely use the generator subtransien...

This paper demonstrates an approach for laser holographic patterning of three-dimensional photonic lattice structures using a single diffractive optical element. The diffractive optical element is fabricated by recording gratings in a photosensitive polymer using a two-beam interference method and has four diffraction gratings oriented with four-fold symmetry around a central opening. Four firs...

B–B 0 mixing and a CP violation parameter in K–K 0 mixing ǫK are studied in the minimal supergravity model. We solve the one-loop renormalization group equations for the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) parameters numerically in order to determine the masses and mixings of the supersymmetric particles, while all off-diagonal (generation mixing) elements and phases of Yukawa coupling...

We study the large N limit in the presence of magnetic monopoles in the Yang-Mills/Higgs model in three dimensions. The physics in the limit depends strongly on the distribution of eigenvalues of the Higgs field in the vacuum, and we propose a particular, nondegenerate configuration. It minimizes the free energy at the moment of symmetry breaking. Given this, the magnetic monopoles show a wide ...

In this paper we propose to interpret the large discretization artifacts affecting the neutral pion mass in maximally twisted lattice QCD simulations as O(a2) effects whose magnitude is roughly proportional to the modulus square of the (continuum) matrix element of the pseudoscalar density operator between vacuum and one-pion state. The numerical size of this quantity is determined by the dynam...
