Figure 1. Fluorescent protein fusions in Candida albicans. Useful fluorescent markers for tracking subcellular structures in C. albicans include: DAPI (DNA); Nop1-GFP (green fluorescent protein, localizing to the nucleolus); Hhf1-GFP (chromatin); Tub2-GFP (microtubules, green); and Tub4-mCherry fluorescent protein (spindle pole bodies, red). Abstract Background and purpose: Diabetes affects the function of many organs in the body. It predisposes an environment for colonization of different microorganisms including Candida species which are normal floral of the skin, vagina and digestive system and increases their susceptibility to fungal infections. This study aimed at isolating different species of candida in diabetic patients ...

OBJECTIVES To assess trends in incidence of Candida spp. central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs) in US NICUs, 1999-2009. METHODS Data from NICUs participating in the National Nosocomial Infections Surveillance (1999-2004) and National Healthcare Safety Network (2006-2009) were analyzed. Overall and birth weight-specific incidence rates of Candida spp. CLABSIs per 1000 central...

Oropharyngeal candidiasis (OPC) remains a common opportunistic infection in HIV-infected patients. Candida albicans is the most frequent causative agent of OPC. However, non-albicans spp. are being increasingly isolated. Candidal cell wall proteins and mannoproteins play important roles in the biology and patogenesis of candidiasis. In the present study, we have analyzed the proteinaceous compo...

Abstract Background: Vulvovaginal candidiasis is a fungal disease with itching, and thick white vaginal discharge. 70-75% of normal healthy adult women report having had at least one episode in their life Candida albicans is identified as the most common cause. The objective of this study was to identify the different candida species in the vaginal swabs of patients with vulvo-vaginitis. M...

A total of 100 HIV sero-positive patients with oral lesion/lesions suggestive of oropharyngeal candidiasis were studied. Candida species were isolated from 61 patients. Out of 61 isolates, 43 (70.49%) isolates were of Candida albicans and 18 (29.50%) isolates were of non albicans species. Out of 43 isolates, 2 (4.65%) isolates of Candida albicans and out of 18 isolates, 4 (22.2%) isolates of no...

Candida ID, a new chromogenic medium, allows identification of Candida albicans (blue colonies) and preliminary identification into a group of four species (pink colonies). In comparison with Albicans ID2 and Sabouraud gentamicin chloramphenicol on 446 fungal strains, Candida ID allowed the isolation of more species than Albicans ID 2 (95.5% versus 91.2%).

AIM The aim of this investigation is identification of Candida strains isolated from patients with gastro-oesophageal candidiasis in Tehran, Iran. BACKGROUND Gastro-oesophageal candidiasis is a rare infection and appears mainly in debilitated or immunocompromised patients. Colonization by Candida spp. may occur in this region and the organism can remain for several months or years in the abse...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Candida albicans (C. albicans) is an opportunistic fungus that can colonize women's mucosal epithelial cell surfaces, causing vulvovaginitis in specific circumstances. The major genes contributing to drug resistance in C. albicans are the candida drug resistance (CDR) and multi drug resistance (MDR) genes. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the CDR-2 and MDR-1 gene...
