The transcriptional activity of many sequence-specific DNA binding proteins is directly regulated by posttranslational covalent modification. Although this form of regulation was first described nearly two decades ago, it remains poorly understood at a mechanistic level. The prototype for a transcription factor controlled by posttranslational modification is E. coli Ada protein, a chemosensor t...
A new cleft-shaped 2-picolyl-4-amino-1,8-naphthalimide Tröger's base ( TBNap ) was synthesized and employed as a fluorescent ‘turn-on’ chemosensor for the discriminative sensing of volatile halogenated solvents.
Simultaneously, the p-synephrine 1 template was imprinted, and a ferrocene redox probe covalently immobilized in (bis-bithiophene)-based polymer, resulting molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) deposited on Pt electrode as thin film to form self-reporting MIP film-based chemosensor. After subsequent extraction from film, analyte determined with differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) (redox probe)-f...
A new, highly selective and sensitive colorimetric chemosensor 1 for detection of Cu(2+) ions in aqueous solution was developed. Receptor 1 detected Cu(2+) ions by changing its color from colorless to yellow. Moreover, the Cu(2+)-sensitive compound was used as a colorimetric pH detector based on a color change due to 1-Cu(2+) complex formation identifiable by the naked eye.
A novel luminescent Zn(2+) ions chemosensor, a cyclometalated platinum(II) bipyridyl acetylide complex, was designed. Of particular significance is that it shows a high sensitivity towards Zn(2+) ions without interference from other biologically important cations in acetonitrile. The tautomerization of amide favors detecting Zn(2+) ions among other HTM (heavy and transition metal) ions in aqueo...
A highly selective and sensitive ratiometric fluorescent chemosensor for Ag(+) in aqueous solution was developed, in a linear range of 0.6 × 10(-7) to 50 × 10(-7) mol L(-1), based on a A-Ag(+)-A binding mode with a heptamethine cyanine motif containing one adenine moiety.
A novel hybrid of azacrown ether-oxabridged fluorogenic chemosensor (1) has been synthesized: the metal ion binding ability of the hybrid molecule shows higher affinity towards transition metal ion Zn(2+) and heavy metal ion Hg(2+) compared to the parent azacrown ether which shows poor metal ion selectivity: the binding modes of the Zn(2+) and Na(+) towards have been discussed.
A charge-frustrated amphiphile composed of a pyrene-1,3,6-trisulfonate head group and an eicosane side chain can be used as a fluorescence chemosensor for spermine. The sensor allows the detection of spermine down to the nanomolar concentration range with good selectivity over closely related biogenic amines such as spermidine.
