We examine some recent methods for System Identification, that also deliver non-parametric error bounds, suited for a robust controller design. In particular, we look at Stochastic Embedding, Set Membership Identification and Model Error Modelling. We briefly review the main ideas together with existing computational solutions and present a comparative example.

This paper addresses comparative evaluation of population-based simulation in comparison to agent-based simulation for different numbers of agents. Population-based simulation, such as for example in the classical approaches to predator-prey modelling and modelling of epidemics, has computational advantages over agent-based modelling with large numbers of agents. Therefore the latter approaches...

Epidemiological research of canine cancers could inform comparative studies of environmental determinants for a number of human cancers. However, such an approach is currently limited because canine cancer data sources are still few in number and often incomplete. Incompleteness is typically due to under-ascertainment of canine cancers. A main reason for this is because dog owners commonly do n...

We propose several approaches to the numerical solution of a new Fredholm integro-differential equations modelling neural networks. A solution strategy based on expansions onto standard cardinal basis functions and collocation is presented. Comparative numerical experiments illustrate specific advantages and drawbacks of the different approaches and are used to motivate alternate strategies. 20...

Biological data management includes the traditional areas of data generation, acquisition, modelling, integration, and analysis. Although numerous academic biological data management systems are currently available, employing them effectively remains a significant challenge. We discuss how this challenge was addressed in the course of developing the Integrated Microbial Genomes (IMG) system for...

MOTIVATION Comparative modelling is a computational method used to tackle a variety of problems in molecular biology and biotechnology. Traditionally it has been applied to model the structure of proteins on their own or bound to small ligands, although more recently it has also been used to model protein-protein interfaces. This work is the first to systematically analyze whether comparative m...

This commentary considers the positive and negative consequences of early economic modelling and explores potential future directions. Early economic modelling offers device manufacturers an opportunity to assess the potential value of an innovation at an early stage of development. Early modelling can direct resources into potentially viable technologies and reduce inv...

machine-part family formation is one of major applications of group technology (gt). the machine cell formation problem in cellular manufacturing system (cms) involves the decomposition of the manufacturing system into machine cells. part families are identified such that they are fully processed within a machine cell. the problem of cell design is a very complex task with wide ranging implicat...
