odontogenic keratocysts (okcs) are one of the most frequent features of nevoid basal cell carcinoma syndrome (nbs). it is linked with mutation in the ptch gene. partial expression of the gene may result in occurrence of only multiple recurring okc. our patient presented with nine cysts with multiple recurrences over a period of 11 years without any other manifestation of the syndrome.

Odontogenic tumors and cysts, arising in the jawbones, grow by resorption and destruction of the jawbones. However, mechanisms underlying bone resorption by odontogenic tumors/cysts remain unclear. Odontogenic tumors/cysts comprise odontogenic epithelial cells and stromal fibroblasts, which originate from the developing tooth germ. It has been demonstrated that odontogenic epithelial cells of t...

BACKGROUND Cysts of the jaws constitute an important pathology in the oral and maxillofacial region and are broadly classified as odontogenic and non-odontogenic. Objective of this study was to document the clinical and radiographic presentation of odontogenic cysts at a tertiary care centre. METHODS In this descriptive case-series, patients presenting with features of suspected cystic lesion...

Background and purpose: Keratocystic odontogenic tumor tends to recur and behave more aggressively than follicular cysts and dental follicles. Eosinophils are multifunctional leukocytes, but their role in oral lesions is controversial. Current study aimed at assessing the density of eosinophils in aggressive odontogenic lesions. Materials and methods: In this descriptive-analytical cross-secti...

The dentigerous cyst is one of the most common developmental odontogenic cysts in the jaw. Occurrence of the bilateral dentigerous cyst is uncommon, and frequently associated with syndromes like basal cell nevus syndrome or cleidocranial dysplasia. There are few reports on the presence of bilateral dentigerous cyst in nonsyndromic patients, and most of these are associated with first and third ...

BACKGROUND It has been demonstrated that HER3 plays an important role in some human cancers and the HER3 expression is associated with worse survival in solid tumors. OBJECTIVES This study was conducted to compare HER3 expression in epithelial lining of radicular cysts (RCs), dentigerous cysts (DCs) and odontogenic keratocysts (OKCs). MATERIALS AND METHODS This was a descriptive-analytical ...

AIM To determine the immunocytochemical pattern of expression of transforming growth factor (TGF) alpha, epidermal growth factor (EGF), and TGF beta in the three most common types of odontogenic jaw cyst. METHODS Growth factor expression was detected in paraffin wax sections of odontogenic cysts (27 odontogenic keratocysts, 10 dentigerous cysts, and 10 radicular cysts) using a streptavidin-bi...

statement of the problem: odontogenic keratocyst (okc) is a developmental odontogenic cyst with specific histopathological features, high recurrence rate, and aggressive clinical behavior. angiogenesis might be considered as an important factor for the growth, expansion, and distribution of this lesion. purpose: the aim of the present study was to determine the mean vascular densities (mvd) of ...
