日本における子宮頸がん検診の問題点の一つは検診受診率の低さである。その問題点の解決策の一つとして、都合の良い時に都合の良い場所で行える自己採取HPV検査による検査の導入を考えた。本研究の目的は、自己採取HPV検査が住民に受け入れられることを確認することである。結果は、検診未受診者でも自己採取HPV検査なら10%程度は検査を受ける意思があることが確認できた。さらに、未受診者には高危険群HPVの陽性者が13.6%と高率に含まれていた。その希望者の中で、1%程度の前がん病変が発見された。今回の検討は、自己採取HPV検査の導入が子宮頸がん検診受診率の改善に寄与することが示唆された。
