In the present study, the microstructure of welded zone of Hastelloy X sheets with thickness of 1 mm via pulsed Nd-YAG laser welding were studied. This welding process was done by autogenus and conductive method. Microstructure were observed by metallurgical OM and SEM. Results shown Solidification of the weld metal is dendritic. The dendrites in the central zone of the welding are fine and equ...

Granular materials exhibit a strongly nonlinear behavior affecting the propagation of energy and information. Dynamically self-organized strongly nonlinear solitary waves are the main information carriers in granular chains. We report the first experimental observation of the dramatic change of solitary wave reflectivity from the interface of two granular media triggered by a magnetically induc...

In ultrasonic tube hydroforming, the tube is hydro formed while the ultrasonic vibration is applied to the die. Prior studies provide experimental proof that ultrasonic tube hydroforming reduces corner radius, improves lubrication and uniform thickness. Use of ultrasonic vibration can decrease friction at the tube-die interface. Few attempts have been made to analyze the wire drawing while the ...

Spatially resolved electron-energy-loss scattering has been used to study changes in the inelastic scattering near the bulk band-gap energy for locations near the GaAs-Ga0. 85Ino. [5As interface. %e observe the expected bulk band gap on either side of the interface. At a single interface-misfit dislocation we observe scatterIng which is consistent with an excitation of transitions between a loc...

The demonstration of a quasi-two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) in LaAlO3/SrTiO3 heterostructures has stimulated intense research activity in recent years. The 2DEG has unique properties that are promising for applications in all-oxide electronic devices. For such applications it is desirable to have the ability to control 2DEG properties by external stimulus. Here, based on first-principles c...

We investigate the energetic stability and dissociation dynamics of water adsorption at the LaAlO3 surface of the n-type LaAlO3/SrTiO3 (LAO/STO) interface and its effect on the electronic properties of the interface by carrying out first-principles electronic structure calculations. In an ambient atmosphere at room temperature the configuration of 1 monolayer (ML) of water molecules including 3...

We present the group of the Wulff plot, which describes the orientation dependence of physical properties of interfaces, such as grain boundaries, between two crystals of arbitrary spatial relationship. From the group of the Wulff plot, symmetry constraints upon the forms of crystals grown in crystalline enviroments are derived. Examples of other applications are given.

We have fabricated transparent top-gate ZnO nanowire (NW) field effect transistors (FETs) on glass and measured their trap density-of-states (DOS) at the dielectric/ZnO NW interface with monochromatic photon beams during their operation. Our photon-probe method showed clear signatures of charge trap DOS at the interface, located near 2.3, 2.7, and 2.9 eV below the conduction band edge. The DOS ...

We report the direct measurement of the Dirac point, the Fermi level, and the work function of graphene by performing internal photoemission measurements on a graphene/SiO(2)/Si structure with a unique optical-cavity enhanced test structure. A complete electronic band alignment at the graphene/SiO(2)/Si interfaces is accurately established. The observation of enhanced photoemission from a one-a...

A mechanically formed electrical nanocontact between gold and tungsten is a prototypical junction between metals with dissimilar electronic structure. Through atomically characterized nanoindentation experiments and first-principles quantum transport calculations, we find that the ballistic conduction across this intermetallic interface is drastically reduced because of the fundamental mismatch...
