We investigate the problem of scheduling n jobs in s-stage hybrid flowshops with parallel identical machines at each stage. The objective is to find a schedule that minimizes the sum of weighted completion times of the jobs. This problem has been proven to be NP-hard. In this paper, an integer programming formulation is constructed for the problem. A new Lagrangian relaxation algorithm is prese...

Recently, new cost-based filtering algorithms for shorter-path constraints have been developed. However, so far only the theoretical properties of shorter-path constraint filtering have been studied. We provide the first extensive experimental evaluation of the new algorithms in the context of the resource constrained shortest path problem. We show how reasoning about path-substructures in comb...

We describe an exact decoding algorithm for syntax-based statistical translation. The approach uses Lagrangian relaxation to decompose the decoding problem into tractable subproblems, thereby avoiding exhaustive dynamic programming. The method recovers exact solutions, with certificates of optimality, on over 97% of test examples; it has comparable speed to state-of-the-art decoders.

We study a multi-echelon joint inventory-location model that simultaneously determines the location of warehouses and inventory policies at the warehouses and retailers. The model is formulated as a nonlinear mixed-integer program, and is solved using a Lagrangian relaxation-based approach. The efficiency of the algorithm and benefits of integration are evaluated through a computational study.

We present an algorithm for solving stochastic integer programming problems with recourse, based on a dual decomposition scheme and Lagrangian relaxation. The approach can be applied to multi-stage problems with mixed-integer variables in each time stage. Numerical experience is presented for some two-stage test problems.

The present study evaluates two problems of single allocation hub-covering problem with star structure including two problems of maximal p-hub covering and hub covering by considering the flow transfer costs. The star structure is as there is a central hub with definite location and other hubs are connected directly to the central hub. In the first problem, the goal is selection of p-hub locati...

In this paper we study the problem of how to identify multiple disjoint paths that have the minimum total cost OPT and satisfy a delay bound D in a graph G. This problem has lots of applications in networking such as fault-tolerant quality of service (QoS) routing and network-flow load balancing. Recently, several approximation algorithms have been developed for this problem. Here, we propose a...

In this article, we develop three e f lc ient extensions t o a recent production scheduling algorithm based on Lagrangian relaxation [9]. These extensions handle the following real-world features: 0 stochastic availability of raw material, 0 reworking and scrapping of parts , and 0 incorporating set-up costs and set-up t imes in the Scheduling of multiclass manufacturing sys tems The f irs t t ...
