We study the shear-flow effects on phase separation of entangled polymer blends by incorporating into the chemical potential a nonequilibrium contribution due to the flow. The results are compared with those of a previous analysis by other authors which did not modify the chemical potential but used a different assumption for the stress tensor of the blend.

The nonequilibrium dynamics of a binary Lennard-Jones mixture in a simple shear flow is investigated by means of molecular dynamics simulations. The range of temperature T investigated covers both the liquid, supercooled, and glassy states, while the shear rate g covers both the linear and nonlinear regimes of rheology. The results can be interpreted in the context of a nonequilibrium, schemati...

where s,z(u) is the local-equilibrium entropy, T the local-equilibrium absolute temperature, q the heat flux, A, Some of the most basic questions in nonequilibrium thermodynamics are those concerning the fundamental thermodynamic concepts, namely, the definition and meaning of entropy and of absolute temperature out of equilibrium. Most of the nonequilibrium thermodynamic theories have assumed ...

Recently, nonequilibrium dynamical mean-field theory was developed as a new technique to solve the bulk nonequilibrium many-body problem. The computational effort needed to solve the nonequilibrium problem in the bulk is similar to the efforts needed to solve the inhomogeneous multilayered problem for current flow perpendicular to the planes. Because the leads provide the appropriate boundary c...

Two different hybrid particle-continuum methods are described for simulation of nonequilibrium gas and plasma dynamics. The first technique, used for nonequilibrium hypersonic gas flows, uses either a continuum description or a particle method throughout a flow domain based on local conditions. This technique is successful in reproducing the results of full particle simulations at a small fract...

We analyze the diffusion of a Brownian particle in a fluid under stationary flow. By using the scheme of nonequilibrium thermodynamics in phase space, we obtain the Fokker-Planck equation that is compared with others derived from the kinetic theory and projector operator techniques. This equation exhibits violation of the fluctuation-dissipation theorem. By implementing the hydrodynamic regime ...

In this study the direct-simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) method is utilized to investigate thermal characteristics of micro- or nanocavity flow. The rarefied cavity flow shows unconventional behaviors which cannot be predicted by the Fourier law, the constitutive relation for the continuum heat transfer. Our analysis in this study confirms some recent observations and shows that the gaseous flow ...

A DSMC (direct simulation Monte Carlo) simulation using Dynamical Molecular Collision (DMC) model based on Molecular Dynamics (MD) calculation with various gas-surface interaction models is applied for solving the two-dimensional nonequilibrium hypersonic rarefied flow over a flat plate with leading edge angle. The gas surface interaction models adopt the diffuse reflection model, the Cercignan...

Despite its intrinsic nonequilibrium origin, thermoelectricity in nanoscale systems is usually described within a static scattering approach which disregards the dynamical interaction with the thermal baths that maintain energy flow. Using the theory of open quantum systems, we show instead that unexpected properties, such as a resonant structure and large sign sensitivity, emerge if the nonequ...
