This paper examines the asymptotic ( ) performance of -ary frequency-shift keying (M-FSK) in multichannels, or multiple frequency-nonselective, slowly fading channels, with coding, side information, and diversity reception. In particular, Reed–Solomon (RS) coding is considered in conjunction with the ratio-threshold test (RTT), which generates side information regarding the reliability of recei...

In this paper, we derive a new selection combining (SC) scheme for noncoherent binary FSK signals on independent (but not necessarily identically distributed) Rayleigh fading channels with -antenna diversity reception. With this combining scheme, we choose the diversity branch having the largest magnitude of the logarithm of the ratio of the a posteriori probabilities (log-APP ratio – LAPPR) of...

Distributed switched diversity combining has drawn significant attention in the recent past due to its low complexity nature in terms of channel state information (CSI) requirement at the receiving end to achieve full diversity order. In this paper, we propose a hybrid selection and switch-and-examine combining (HSSEC) scheme, which is a combination of selection combining (SC) and switch-andexa...

Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) has been widely adopted for high data rate wireless transmissions. By deploying multiple receiving antennas, single-input multiple-output(SIMO-) OFDM can further enhance the performance with spatial diversity. However, due to the large dynamic range of OFDM signals and the nonlinear nature of analog components, it is pragmatic to model the trans...

The impact of diversity combining on the matched filter bound of BPSK on time-discrete multipath slowly Rayleigh fading intersymbol interference channels is analysed. Expressions for the bound are derived for SNR selection, S+N selection, and also equal gain diversity combining. Numerical results for the derived bounds are presented on a GSM typical urban channel model.

Landscapes are considered as a series of different land units with a size, shape and location arrangement that are permanently under the influence of natural events and human activities. Understanding the dynamics and heterogeneity of landscapes and environmental changes is of great importance. In order to quantitatively analyze and interpret the factors affecting the changes in the environment...

Switch and stay combining (SSC) is an attractive diversity technique due to its low complexity and compatibility to resourceconstrained wireless networks. This letter proposes a distributed SSC for partial relay selection networks in order to achieve spatial diversity as well as to improve spectral efficiency. Simulation results show that the performance loss (in terms of bit error probability)...

Coherent trellis-coded modulation (TCM) systems employing diversity combining are analyzed. Three different kinds of combining are considered: maximal ratio, equal gain, and selection combining (SC). First, the cutoff rate parameter is derived for equal gain combining (EGC) and SC assuming transmission over a fully interleaved channel with flat slow Rayleigh fading, which permits comparison wit...

In this work, we propose a new signal deteclion scheme for a DS-CDMA system in frequencyjlat Rayleigh fading channels. The proposed detector exploits the space diversity and the adaptive interference cancellation to mitigate the effects of both channel fading and multiple-access interference. It consists of L diversity antennas, L adaptive interference cancellers (one for each diversity branch)...

In this letter, we investigate the fundamental relationship between the performance of a maximum ratio diversity combining scheme and the normalized mean square covariance (NMSV) under wide-sense stationary uncorrelated scattering (WSSUS) channels. In particular, we show that the reliability achieved by diversity combining is closely related to the value of NMSV of the channel under consideration.
