The Mw 7.9 Denali fault earthquake ruptured segments of the Susitna Glacier, Denali, and Totschunda faults in central Alaska, providing a unique opportunity to look for intermediate-term (weeks to months) responses of active volcanoes to shaking from a large earthquake. The Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO) monitors 24 volcanoes with seismograph networks. We examined one station per volcano. Dig...

Long-period wave propagation in the upper mantle is investigated by constructing synthetic seismograms for proposed models. A model consisting of spherical layers is assumed. Generalized ray theory and the Cagniard-de Hoop method is used to obtain the transient response. Preliminary calculations on producing the phases P and P P by ray summation out to periods of 50 sec is demonstrated, and syn...

Abstract Records of 58 identical broadband seismograph stations were studied made during strong geomagnetic storms. Oscillations periods a few hours studied. These compared with synchronous variations earth tides. Anomalous changes in deformation rate observed after storms at installed near continent–ocean boundaries. They lasted days and had amplitudes millimeters per minute.

the current study aimed at investigating the relationship between motivation and test preparation strategies (tpss) used by iranian pre-university students in their preparation period for the university entrance exam (uee). due to the importance of uee in iran, this study also attempted to show its impact on these two important variables. to this end, 100 pre-university students in an iranian p...

Two recent developments in seismometry allow the study of seismic phenomena over a broad period range. Block and Moore [1970] developed a quartz accelerometer with the required stability and sensitivity to record seismic waves as well as earth tides. The instrument, especially useful at periods greater than 80 sec, recorded free oscillations of the earth associated with an earthquake of magnitu...

Much research has suggested that facial identification has some characteristics of automaticity, in that it is rapid, nonconscious, and mandatory. However, little research has tested whether it can occur even if attention is already devoted to the demanding central processes of another task. In the present study, we addressed this type of automaticity using the psychological refractory period p...
