A 32-year-old female presented with a rare thoracic intradural anterior epidermoid tumor manifesting as acute onset of paraplegia. The tumor was completely removed through a laminectomy. She achieved a full neurological recovery. This is a very unusual presentation for an epidermoid tumor.
Authors report a case of acute paraplegia due to an epidural spinal abscess caused by a heroin injection that happened four months before. A complete neurological recovery is obtained by surgical decompression and antibiotic therapy despite the preoperative neurological status. The need for a surgical stabilization following extensive laminectomy is discussed.
Vertex epidural hematomas (VEDHs) are well known but uncommon. Their clinical presentation may be misleading and missed by routine CT axial scanning; thus, diagnosis may be delayed, with possibly fatal consequences. We report a case of acute posttraumatic paraplegia caused by a VEDH, which was evident at CT and for which the patient underwent successful surgery.
