SUMMARY Herpes Zoster Cephalicus or Ramsey-Hunt syndrome is second only to Bells palsy as the most common cause of acute facial paralysis. The varicclla zoster virus is thought to be responsible for this syndrome; Involvement or the racial and auditory nerve. In this article, a patient who was admitted with vesticular eruption of the external car with facial paralysis, and auditory symptoms i...

Background and purpose: Auditory-verbal memory decreases with age. One method to compensate this weakness is transcranial direct current stimulation. The current study investigated the effect of Anodal Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation on auditory-verbal memory performance of healthy elderly people. Materials and methods: In a randomized clinical trial, 42 healthy subjects with no histor...

Conduction disturbances in the central nervous system (CNS) of rats due to 2,5-hexanedione (2,5-HD) were examined, using auditory brainstem responses (ABRs). Ten male rats (Jcl-Wistar) were given subcutaneous injection of 2,5-HD of 300 mg/kg/day five days a week for three weeks. For the control group, ten male rats (Jcl-Wistar) were employed. One week after the last administration, ABRs in rats...

OBJECTIVE Slow nerve conduction velocity and reduction in response amplitude are objective hallmarks of diabetic sensorimotor polyneuropathy. Because subjective or clinical indicators of neuropathy do not always match well with the presence of abnormal nerve physiology tests, we evaluated associations to nerve conduction in patients with type 1 diabetes. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS Nerve cond...

introduction: ischaemic-reperfusion nerve injury has been suggested as the mechanism for post-tourniquet limb paralysis. as dexamethasone (dex) has been shown to prevent ischaemic-reperfusion process in some tissues, we tested the hypothesis that this drug would reduce tourniquet induced nerve injury. methods: 36 male wistar rats (200-250 gr) were chosen and divided randomly into 6 equal groups...

introduction: first branchial cleft anomalies manifest with duplication of the external auditory canal.   case report: this report features a rare case of microtia and congenital middle ear and canal cholesteatoma with first branchial fistula. external auditory canal stenosis was complicated by middle ear and external canal cholesteatoma, but branchial fistula, opening in the zygomatic root and...

Comprehensive electrophysiological studies were performed on 13 patients with arsenic neuropathy. The most prominent finding was a marked abnormality in sensory nerve conduction in the presence of moderate abnormalities in motor nerve conduction. The motor nerve conduction studies and needle EMG were typical of those seen in axonal degeneration which was confirmed by sural nerve biopsy.

Exposure to loud sound (acoustic overexposure; AOE) induces hearing loss and damages cellular structures at multiple locations in the auditory pathway. Whether AOE can also induce changes in myelin sheaths of the auditory nerve (AN) is an important issue particularly because these changes can be responsible for impaired action potential propagation along the AN. Here we investigate the effects ...
