introduction: plant diseases caused by geminiviruses are one of the main constraints of legume production in the world. they are responsible for a constraint on production of various crops. geminiviruses are characterized by their twinned icosahedral particles and their single-stranded dna genome. the family geminiviridae is grouped into four genera: begomovirus, mastrevirus, curtovirus and top...
Plants including pepper, red kidney bean, squash, string bean and tomato, as well as weeds with viral symptoms were collected from five districts in Belize over a three year period with the aim of determining the diversity of the begomoviruses present. Sixty five percent of the samples screened via DNA hybridization produced signals indicative of begomovirus infection. Subsequent PCR amplificat...
We present here the first complete Bean common mosaic necrosis virus (BCMNV) genomic sequence isolated from virus-infected common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) in East Timor, and compare it with six complete BMCNV genomes from the Netherlands, and one each from the United States, Tanzania, and an unspecified country. It most resembled the Netherlands strain NL-8 genome.
A potyvirus was found causing yellow mosaic and veinal banding in sweetpepper in Central and Southeast Brazil. The sequence analysis of the 3′ terminal region of the viral RNA revealed a coat protein of 278 amino acids, followed by 275 nucleotides in the 3′-untranslated region preceding a polyadenylated tail. The virus shared 77.4% coat protein amino acid identity with Pepper severe mosaic viru...
Interactions between the major proteins of Clover yellow vein virus (ClYVV) were investigated using a GAL4 transcription activator-based yeast two-hybrid system (YTHS). Self-interactions manifested by VPg and HCPro and an interaction between NIb and NIaPro were observed in ClYVV. In addition, a strong HCPro-VPg interaction was detected by both YTHS and by in vitro far-Western blot analysis in C...
