This study aimed to analyse the types of prescribed antibiotics, frequency usage, and age-based prescription patterns in a selected population. was granted ethical clearance data were collected from Kottawa, Kalubowila, Mawanella. Prescriptions patients after obtaining informed consent. Results showed that 41% antibiotic prescriptions with penicillin, 23% macrolides, 20% cephalosporin, 9% quino...

Four spontaneous, single-step mutants of Escherichia coli K-12 resistant to low levels of the cephalosporin 3'-quinolone ester Ro 23-9424 were isolated at a frequency of 10(-10) to 10(-11) mutants per CFU plated. The mutants were cross-resistant to both cephalosporin (cefotaxime) and quinolone (fleroxacin) components. Accordingly, they had altered porins and replicative DNA biosynthesis resista...

UNLABELLED The intrinsic resistance of Enterococcus faecium to ceftriaxone and cefepime (here referred to as "cephalosporins") is reliant on the presence of class A penicillin-binding proteins (Pbps) PbpF and PonA. Mutants lacking these Pbps exhibit cephalosporin susceptibility that is reversible by exposure to penicillin and by selection on cephalosporin-containing medium. We selected two ceph...

Cephalosporin C, an antibiotic with structure (I) (Abraham & Newton, 1961; Hodgkin & Maslen, 1961), was first isolated from an impure preparation of the chemically related penicillin NJ [(D-4amino-4-carboxybutyl)penicillin] that had been obtained from the culture fluid of a Cephalosporium sp. (Newton & Abraham, 1956; Abraham & Newton, 1956). The amount of cephalosporin C produced by this organi...

A total of 112 out of 5,709 Salmonella enterica isolates from domestic animal species exhibited decreased susceptibilities to ceftiofur and ceftriaxone, and each possessed the blaCMY gene. Ten Salmonella serotypes were significantly more likely to include resistant isolates. Isolates from turkeys, horses, cats, and dogs were significantly more likely to include resistant isolates.

The ready accessibility of (R)- α -aminoadipic acid by enzymatic cleavage of cephalosporin C (CephC) in the production of 7-aminocephalosporanic acid (7-ACA) on a large scale makes it a favorable chiral pool building block for the synthesis of unusual amino acids. A route for the synthesis of C-5-alkenyl and C-6-alkylidene derivatives of (R)-pipecolic acid is described which utilizes (R)- α -am...

Acremonium chrysogenum is an important filamentous fungus which produces cephalosporin C in industry. This review summarized the study on genetic engineering of Acremonium chrysogenum, including biosynthesis and regulation for fermentation of cephalosporin C, molecular techniques, molecular breeding and transcriptomics of Acremonium chrysogenum. We believe with all the techniques available and ...

Of 72 blood isolates of Enterobacter spp. collected over an 8-year period, 50% (36 of 72) were derepressed or partially derepressed AmpC mutants. The extended-spectrum -lactamase (ESBL) production rate was 43% (31 of 72 isolates), and 67.3% (31 of 46) of extended-spectrum cephalosporin-resistant strains produced ESBLs. Thus, a confirmatory test for ESBL production is necessary for extended-spec...
