In vitro techniques have been used to investigate the nature of microsomal cytochrome P450 involved in the metabolism of oleic acid, a physiological monounsaturated fatty acid. Like lauric acid, which is currently used as a model substrate of fatty acid metabolism, the alkyl chain of oleic acid is hydroxylated on its v and ( v –1) carbons. The identity of these hydroxylated metabolites was asce...

The conditions for the preparation of laurylsarcosyltaurine from lauric acid and sarcosyltaurine, a crystalline dipeptide, are described. The preparation of sarcosyltaurine from the reaction of taurine and the mixed anhydride of benzyloxycarbonylsarcosine and isobutyl chloroformate is also described.

Lauric acid (LA) and myristic (MA) were used to prepare a binary eutectic mixture. The expanded graphite (EG) was as the carrier, lauric–myristic acid/expanded (LA–MA/EG) composite phase change material prepared by physical adsorption method. microstructure, chemical structure, thermal properties of LA–MA/EG characterized scanning electron microscopy (SEM), differential calorimeter (DSC), Fouri...

Fatty acids classified as chemical penetration enhancers (CPEs) might cause the fluidization and perturbation of stratum corneum (SC) lipid matrix. The penetration of oleic, linoleic, lauric and capric acids into human skin was studied by time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (TOF-SIMS) imaging and related to fatty acids enhancing effect on lipophilic model drug tolnaftate penetration ...

Expression of a California bay lauroyl-acyl carrier protein thioesterase (MCTE) in developing seeds of transgenic oilseed rape alters the fatty acid composition of the mature seed, resulting in up to 60 mol% of laurate in triacylglycerols. In this study, we examined the metabolism of lauric acid and 14C-acetate in developing seeds of oilseed rape that express high levels of MCTE. Lauroyl-CoA ox...

The fatty acid composition of bone marrow lipid was studied in 10 normal individuals and in 90 patients with a hematologic disorders. Simultaneously , the fatty acid composition of bone marrow was studied in rabbits and dogs which were injected with nitromin and cortisone, and others which were irradiated and subjected to periodic venesection. The fatty acid composition of normal human bone mar...

BACKGROUND P450 fatty acid decarboxylases represented by the unusual CYP152 peroxygenase family member OleTJE have been receiving great attention recently since these P450 enzymes are able to catalyze the simple and direct production of 1-alkenes for potential applications in biofuels and biomaterials. To gain more mechanistic insights, broader substrate spectra, and improved decarboxylative ac...

An attempt of synthesis 2-monolaurin from lauric acid through trilaurin as an intermediate compound has been successfully conducted. Trilaurin afforded via esterification reaction and glycerol with yield purity 78 84% respectively. Ethanolysis using Lipozyme TL IM enzyme resulted in the formation a 60 % 97%.

The objective of this study was to investigate the antimicrobial activities of saturated fatty acids and fatty amines against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). The antimicrobial activity of saturated fatty acids and fatty amines was determined by oxygen meters with multi-channels and disposable oxygen electrode sensors (DOX-96). Lauric acid, the most effective among the satura...

Nanocomposites of poly(lactide) (PLA) and cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) were fabricated using two different types covalently grafted surface compatibilizers, namely fatty acids (lauric or stearic acid) poly(glycidyl methacrylate) (PGMA) bearing reactive epoxy end-groups. Temperature-Modulated DSC analysis informed on weak attractive interaction PLA CNC-g-lauric acid plasticizing CNC-g-stearic aci...
