Investigated are J̃-holomorphic cylinders in R ×M , where M is a contact manifold. It is shown that a sufficiently long cylinder having small area is close to a constant map, if its center action vanishes. If its center action is positive, it is close to a cylinder over a periodic orbit of the Reeb vector field, and has a well determined shape. A compactness result is deduced, which is useful in...

It is currently unknown whether sex differences exist in the cardiovascular consequences of the inspiratory muscle metaboreflex. We hypothesized that the activation of the inspiratory muscle metaboreflex will lead to less of an increase in mean arterial pressure (MAP) and limb vascular resistance (LVR) and less of a decrease in limb blood flow (Q̇L) in women compared with men. Twenty healthy men...

Given a uniformly expanding map of two intervals we describe a large class of potentials admitting unique equilibrium measures. This class includes all Hölder continuous potentials but goes far beyond them. We also construct a family of continuous but not Hölder continuous potentials for which we observe phase transitions. This provides a version of the example in [9] for uniformly expanding maps.

A. Borel proved that, if a finite group F acts effectively and continuously on a closed aspherical manifold M with centerless fundamental group π1(M), then a natural homomorphism ψ from F to the outer automorphism group Outπ1(M) of π1(M), called the associated abstract kernel, is a monomorphism. In this paper, we investigate to what extent Borel’s theorem holds for a compact Lie group G acting ...

A complete classification is given for finite vertex-primitive and vertex-biprimitive s-transitive graphs for s ≥ 4. The classification involves the construction of new 4-transitive graphs, namely a graph of valency 14 admitting the Monster simple group M, and an infinite family of graphs of valency 5 admitting projective symplectic groups PSp(4, p) with p prime and p ≡ ±1 (mod 8). As a corolla...

We determine all hyperbolic 3-manifolds M admitting two toroidal Dehn fillings at distance 4 or 5. We show that if M is a hyperbolic 3manifold with a torus boundary component T0, and r, s are two slopes on T0 with ∆(r, s) = 4 or 5 such that M(r) and M(s) both contain an essential torus, then M is either one of 14 specific manifolds Mi, or obtained from M1, M2, M3 or M14 by attaching a solid tor...

This paper develops the reduction theory of implicit Hamiltonian systems admitting a symmetry group at a singular value of the momentum map. The results naturally extend those known for (explicit) Hamiltonian systems described by Poisson brackets. keywords: implicit Hamiltonian systems, Dirac structures, symmetry, reduction

2. In practice, researchers find it useful that GMM estimators can be constructed without specifying the full data generating process (which would be required to write down the maximum likelihood estimator.) This has been the case in the study of single equations in a simultaneous system, in the study of potentially misspecified dynamic models designed to match target moments, and in the constr...
