In this article, we show that every rational map whose multipliers all lie in a given number field is power map, Chebyshev or Lattès map. This strengthens conjecture by Milnor concerning maps with integer multipliers, which was recently proved Ji and Xie.

Security agencies including the US Coast Guard, the Federal Air Marshal Service and the Los Angeles Airport police are several major domains that have been deploying Stackelberg security games and related algorithms to protect against a single adversary or multiple, independent adversaries strategically. However, there are a variety of real-world security domains where adversaries may benefit f...

Political scientists frequently interpret the results of conjoint experiments as reflective majority preferences. In this article, we show that target estimand experiments, average marginal component effect (AMCE), is not well defined in these terms. Even with individually rational experimental subjects, AMCE can indicate opposite true preference majority. To this, characterize aggregation rule...

Statistical decision theory axiomatically assumes that the relative desirability of different options that humans perceive is well described by assigning them optionspecific scalar utility functions. However, this assumption is refuted by observed human behavior, including studies wherein preferences have been shown to change systematically simply through variation in the set of choice options ...

What does it mean for analogy to be rational? John Stuart Mill described a probabilistic underpinning for analogical inference based on the the odds of observing systemic pairwise correspondence across otherwise independent systems by mere chance. Although proponents and critics have debated its validity, Mill’s approach has yet to be implemented computationally or studied psychologically. In t...

This chapter provides a qualitative review of treatment outcome studies of rational-emotive therapy (RET; Ellis, 1962) and a variant of RET, systematic rational restructuring (SRR; Goldfried, Decenteceo, & Weinberg, 1974). We have organized studies according to the type of problem or disorder being treated. This should maximize the utility of the information for clinical decision-making. Confro...

Article history: Received 27 June 2016 Accepted 27 June 2016 Available online 28 June 2016 emic subjects reported that high levels of total IgG was associated with a higher incidence of CHD (Kovanen et al., 1998). It is of course possible that total Ig is a marker higher risk in subjects with dyslipidemia and a marker of lower risk in subjects with hypertension but it is difficult to see a path...
