We show that for certain configurations of two chemostats fed in parallel, the presence of two different species in each tank can improve the yield of the whole process, compared to the same configuration having the same species in each volume. This leads to a (so-called) “transgressive over-yielding” due to spatialization. Key-words. Chemostat, steady-state, optimization, over-yielding.

We present recent works on the representation of spatialization data for the authoring, interchange and rendering of spatial audio in musical contexts. These works are mainly implemented in the OpenMusic computer-aided composition environment. High-level structures created in compositional processes are represented by matrices, stored using a standardized interchange format and finally read and...

We present recent works carried out in the OpenMusic computer-aided composition environment for combining compositional processes with spatial audio rendering. We consider new modalities for manipulating sound spatialization data and processes following both object-based and channel-based approaches, and developed a framework linking algorithmic processing with interactive control.

This paper explores a trans-Atlantic clash about time: in 1899, American philosopher Mary Calkins argued we should not spatialize time; British Victoria Welby should. I take their disagreement as starting point to contextualize, study, and compare the accounts of time presented respective articles. Both cared deeply time, writing on topic across careers, but views have been studied by historian...

We present recent works carried out in the OpenMusic computer-aided composition environment for connecting compositional processes with spatial audio rendering. In particular, we developed tools to explore new modalities for manipulating sound spatialization data with a combination of algorithmic processes and interactive control using remote interfaces.

We propose an approach to digital audio effects using recombinant spatialization for signal processing. This technique, which we call Spatio-Operational Spectral Synthesis (SOS), relies on recent theories of auditory perception. The perceptual spatial phenomenon of objecthood is explored as an expressive musical tool.

We present a high-level Java API that allows developers of pervasive computing environments to integrate 2D or 3D spatial sound over loudspeakers into systems without any DSP knowledge. The system is platformindependent and allows most arbitrary speaker configurations, thereby providing a scalable tool for real-time spatialization with low-cost off-the-shelf hardware.
