The aim of this study was to estimate the likely effect of reduced travel speeds on the incidence of pedestrian fatalities in Adelaide, Australia. The study was based on the results of detailed investigations of 176 fatal pedestrian crashes in the Adelaide area between 1983 and 1991. The method developed to estimate the effect of reduced travelling speed is described and supported by references...

This paper presented a two step method for offline handwritten Farsi word recognition. In first step, in order to improve the recognition accuracy and speed, an algorithm proposed for initial eliminating lexicon entries unlikely to match the input image. For lexicon reduction, the words of lexicon are clustered using ISOCLUS and Hierarchal clustering algorithm. Clustering is based on the featur...

In this paper, the optimization of the surface composite of Mg AZ31B-carbon nanotub(CNT) via friction stir processing was investigated. Then, the most effective process parameters such as transverse speed, rotational speed, CNT weight percent and welding passes were studied by Response Surface Methodology (RSM) design of experiment. The specimens were also characterized by micro-hardness, tensi...

Marine Engineering faces certain challenges in recent times due to the prevalence of ambient conditions caused by imbalance in the ecosystem. Underwater ambient noise is primarily a background noise, which is a function of time, location and depth. It is of prime importance to detect the signals such as the sound of a submarine or an echo from a target, surpassing and surmounting this ambient n...

In this paper, models are developed which enable a prediction of how the impact of speed management schemes on accidents varies both with speed changes and with site and scheme characteristics. It was found that, the impact of schemes with vertical deflections is independent of the change in mean speed: an accident reduction of 44% is predicted by the model irrespective of the impact on speed. ...
