transcranial current stimulation (tcs) is a neuromodulation method in which the patient is exposed to a mild electric current (direct or alternating) at 1-2 ma, resulting in an increase or a decrease in the brain excitability. this modi.cation in neural activities can be used as a method for functional human brain mapping with causal inferences. this method might also facilitate the treatments ...

OBJECTIVE To determine whether any difference exists in responses to indirect moxibustion relative to thermal stimulation sites. METHODS Twenty one healthy men of mean±SD age 22.5±6.1 years were randomly divided into two groups, one receiving a single moxibustion stimulation in three locations (the three-point stimulation group, n=10 participants) and the other receiving three stimulations in...

BACKGROUND Developmental differences in short- and long-term responses to pain, especially surgical pain, have received minimal attention. The purpose of the present study was to examine postoperative responses in rats of developmental ages paralleling the infant to young adult human. METHODS The withdrawal threshold to von Frey filament testing and withdrawal latency to hind-paw radiant heat...

A quantitative method for the examination of thermal sensibility was applied in 26 normal subjects and in patients with various neurological disorders. The stimulation technique resembled Békésy audiometry: the patient reversed the direction of the temperature change of a thermode whenever warm, cold, or thermal pain thresholds were reached. The resulting temperature curve enables a quantitativ...

background: based on classical two-cell, two-gonadotropin theory, in the follicle, follicle-stimulating hormone (fsh) and luteinizing hormone (lh) put on their main effects on the granulosa and theca cells. lh is essential for androgens production. androgens are used for estradiol production by granulosa cells. profound suppression of lh concentrations in some normogonadotropic patients can cau...

Brief, localized, cutaneous, non-painful thermal stimuli can evoke a transient vasomotor response, causing increased cutaneous blood flow and elevated skin temperature. The aims of this study were to investigate 1) if cutaneous sensitization by topical application of capsaicin (TRPV1 receptor agonist) can facilitate the size, duration and spatial extent of this vasomotor response and 2) if male...

BACKGROUND Improvement in sensory detection thresholds was found to be associated with neuropathic pain relief produced by epidural motor cortex stimulation with surgically implanted electrodes. OBJECTIVE To determine the ability of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) of the motor cortex to produce similar sensory changes. METHODS In 46 patients with chronic neuropathic pain...

background and aim: tinnitus is an auditory phantom percept in the absence of any objective physical sound source. although advances have been made in its treatment, there is very low percent of patients that report an elimination of their tinnitus. a novel approach using noninvasive neuromodulation has emerged as an interesting and promising modality for tinnitus relief. our aim in this revi...

This paper reports the locomotion response of airborne, ambulatory and aquatic insects to thermal stimulation. A finite element model has been developed to predict the variation of insect–stimulator interface temperature with input power. Piezothermal stimulators have been fabricated from lead zirconate titanate (PZT) using a batch mode micro ultrasonic machining process. Typical sizes range fr...

In this paper, a technique is presented to detect micro-cracks on photo-voltaic cells by infrared thermography. The originality of the system comes from the thermoelectric stimulation used to generate thermal transients at micro-crack locations. These thermal transient are picked-up by an infrared cameras for further detection.
