BACKGROUND Active travel (walking or cycling for transport) is associated with favourable health outcomes in adults. However, little is known about the concurrent patterns of health behaviour associated with active travel. We used compositional data analysis to explore differences in how people doing some active travel used their time compared to those doing no active travel, incorporating phys...

This article explores the development of previous models to determine hubs in a competitive environment. In this paper, by comparing parameters of the ticket price, travel time and the service quality of hub airports, airline hubs are divided into six categories. The degree of importance of travel time and travel cost are determined by a multivariate Lagrange interpolation method, which can pla...

the momentum equation in the kinematic wave model is a power-law equation with two parameters. these parameters, which relate the discharge to the flow area, are commonly derived using manning’s equation. in general, the values of these parameters depend on the flow depth except for some special cross sections. in this paper, improved estimates of the kinematic wave parameters for circular chan...

This article investigates the Greek household travel demand for domestic interurban public transportation using cross-sectional micro-data from a countrywide Household Budget Survey. A number of limited dependent variable models, including the Heckit, Two-Part, and Double-Hurdle models, are implemented to jointly estimate the probability of selecting a specific mode and the amount of using it. ...

Air transport system has always been involved in all aspects of life because of its high potential in transporting passengers and goods. In this research we surveys the effects of travel variables on demand of domestic air transport, and for gathering required information from passengers, a questionnaire was designed including 20 effective parameters on air transport demand with questions These...

this thesis attempts to investigate the effects of prelistening activities on enhancing iranian efl learners` listening comprehension. the present study investigated ways in which learners` background knowledge could be activated in order to enhance their l2 listening comprehension by limiting the number of possible text interpretations prior to listening. the experiments conducted in this study examined the effect of prior knowledge and vocabulary teaching on iranian efl learners listening comprehension. the current study has two purposes: one is to investigate the effect of background knowledge on the second language listening comprehension of iranian intermediates and the other is to determine whether second language is facilitated by the introduction of unknown vocabularies in the form of prelistening activities. to conduct the study different instruments such as listening proficiency test and four listening tests such as pre and posttests were used and various statistical processes and techniques including paired-sample t-test, and analysis of variance (anova) were used. the findings of this study supported all three hypotheses tested. differences were found between the means of preteaching vocabulary variable, the background knowledge activation variable, and mean difference between these two strategies variable. subjects scored higher when the unknown words were taught in advance. likewise, subjects scored higher when they were asked some relevant questions about the topic than on those without them. there was, in addition, a significant difference between the means of preteaching vocabulary strategy and background knowledge activation strategy. in fact, preteaching vocabulary had a better effect in enhancing the students’ listening comprehension, in comparison to background knowledge activation strategy.
