BACKGROUND Non-slip socks have been suggested as a means of preventing accidental falls due to slips. This study compared the relative slip resistance of commercially available non-slip socks with other foot conditions, namely bare feet, compression stockings and conventional socks, in order to determine any traction benefit. METHODS Phase one involved slip resistance testing of two commercia...

STUDY DESIGN The strength effects of a pedicle screw-rod system supplemented with a novel cross-link configuration were biomechanically evaluated in porcine spines. PURPOSE To assess the biomechanical differences between a conventional cross-link pedicle screw-rod system versus a novel cross-link instrumentation, and to determine the effect of the cross-links. OVERVIEW OF LITERATURE Transve...

We show that Kolmogorov complexity and such its estimators as universal codes (or data compression methods) can be applied for hypothesis testing in a framework of classical mathematical statistics. The methods for identity testing and nonparametric testing of serial independence for time series are described. AMS subject classification: 60G10, 62M07, 68Q30, 68W01, 94A29.

One of the prime challenges of testing a system-on-achip (SOC) is to reduce the required test data size. In this paper, we introduce a novel compression / decompression scheme based on geometric shapes that substantially reduces the amount of test data and reduces test time. The proposed scheme is based on ordering the test vectors in such a way that enables the generation of geometric shapes t...

JPEG-LS is the latest JPEG lossless and near lossless image compression standard distributed in 1999. From our experience of testing and evaluating this standard, we propose a number of variations to strengthen its application and efficiency. These include: (a) adaptive distortion distribution for its near lossless compression mode; (b) low-cost rate control schemes, and (c) possible improvemen...

This paper represents the comparison technique of Image compression (using HAAR wavelet, Daubechies Wavelet, Coiflets Wavelet, Biorthogonal Wavelet). The testing have done in different image mode like medical images, JPG images etc. which reduce the image sizes on their storage requirements while maintaining relevant diagnostic information. The amount of data produced by these techniques is vast...

Image quality of the compressed pictures can be evaluated by objective testing method based on the lower level human visual system model. The simulation of the HVS model presented here is used either to show the region in a compressed picture where the distortion is visible or can produce a single image quality number which correlates well with subjective image quality evaluation. Sets of the p...

Background Changes in the shear plantar soft tissue properties with diabetes likely play a role in plantar ulceration, yet little is known about these characteristics. We recently conducted in vitro shear tests on specimens previously tested in compression to characterize the tissue under both these loading modes. However, previously tested specimens might not provide representative mechanical ...

percutaneous vertebroplasty is a promising therapeutic technique for pain control in patients with pathologic fractures of vertebral bodies. percutaneous vertebroplasty is an appropriate treatment for vertebral pathologic fractures, which is resistant to other usual treatment. it is a useful and only choice in special cases, because of less tissue damage and there is no risk of open surgery and...
