People natural ly express themselves through facial gestures. We have implemented an interface that tracks a person's facial features robustly in real t ime (30Hz) and does not require art i f icial artifacts such as special i l lumination or facial makeup. Even if features become occluded the system is capable of recovering tracking in a couple of frames after the features reappear in the imag...

Corresponding Author: Basma Hisham Department of Computer Engineering, Al-Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt Email: [email protected] Abstract: Across the world, several millions of people use sign language as their main way of communication with their society, daily they face a lot of obstacles with their families, teachers, neighbours, employers. According to the most recent statistics o...
Background and purpose: In developmental process, children use gestures for communication. One of these gestures is reaching which has various communicative functions. The purpose of this research was to investigate the development of reaching and its communicative functions in normally developed children aged 8-12 months whose language was Persian. Materials and methods: This longitudinal...
We present a probabilistic, salience-based approach to the interpretation of pointing gestures together with spoken utterances. Our mechanism models dependencies between spatial and temporal aspects of gestures and features of utterances. For our evaluation, we collected a corpus of requests which optionally included pointing. Our results show that pointing information improves interpretation a...
We present a probabilistic, salience-based mechanism for the interpretation of pointing gestures together with spoken utterances. Our formulation models dependencies between spatial and temporal aspects of gestures and features of objects. The results from our corpus-based evaluation show that the incorporation of pointing information improves interpretation accuracy.
boron nitride semiconducting zigzag swcnt, $b_{cb}$$n_{cn}$$c_{1-cb-cn}$, as a potential candidate for making nanoelectronic devices was examined. in contrast to the previous dft calculations, wherein just one boron and nitrogen doping configuration have been considered, here for the average over all possible configurations, density of states (dos) was calculated in terms of boron and nitrogen ...
among the low–dimensional allotropes of carbon, nanotubes and graphene have attracted very much attention from nano–science and nanotechnology specialists. they have been proposed as building blocks in nanometer device engineering. however, these structures are not defect–free. in this thesis, we focused on defective carbon nanotubes and graphene, and studied the effect of couple of very common...
This paper describes a system for recognition of dynamic hand gestures. Appearance based and motion related features have been used for characterizing the gestures. Gesture sequences have been interpreted using HMM based recognition engine. Interpreted gesture sequences have been translated into coininands for controlling a remote robot.
This paper addresses the issue of how linguistic feedback expressions, prosody and head gestures, i.e. head movements and face expressions, relate to one another in a collection of eight video-recorded Danish map-task dialogues. The study shows that in these data, prosodic features and head gestures significantly improve automatic classification of dialogue act labels for linguistic expressions...
