An extracellular keratinase from Bacillus pumilus KS12 was purified by DEAE ion exchange chromatography. It was a 45 kDa monomer as determined by SDS PAGE analysis. It was found to be an alkaline, serine protease with pH and temperature optima of 10 and 60°C, respectively. It was thiol activated with two- and eight-fold enhancement in presence of 10 mM DTT and β-mercaptoethanol, respectively. I...

Increasing of multidrug resistance (MDR) remains an intractable challenge for burn patients. Innovative nanomaterials are also in high demand for the development of new antimicrobial biomaterials that inevitably have opened new therapeutic horizons in medical approaches and lead to many efforts for synthesizing new metal oxide nanoparticles (NPs) for better control of the MDR associated with th...

This study reports the protease production from Aspergillus tamarii using agroindustrial residues as substrate for solid-state fermentation (SSF) and biochemical characterization. The highest protease production was obtained using wheat bran as substrate at 72 h fermentation with maximum proteolytic activity of 401.42 U/mL, collagenase of 243.0 U/mL and keratinase of 19.1 U/mL. The protease exh...

The aim of this study was to characterize keratinolytic bacteria isolated from feather waste. Four isolates were selected after growth on solid medium with feather meal as sole carbon and nitrogen source and screened for proteolytic activity on milk agar plates. Three isolates were Gram-negative (belonged to the genera Burkholderia, Chryseobacterium and Pseudomonas) and one was Gram-positive (M...

We report the isolation of a keratinolytic-producing Bacillus subtilis strain and the characterization of the exceptional dehairing properties of its subtilisin-like keratinase. This enzyme can be an alternative to sodium sulfide, the major pollutant from tanneries, and may completely replace it. Its unique nonactivity upon collagen enhances its industrial potential.

Dermatophytes are keratinophilic fungi and the causative agent of dermatophytosis in animals people. In pathogenesis this disease, enzymes such as DNase, gelatinase, lipase, keratinase, elastase, collagenase highlighted. This work aimed to verify production these by clinical environmental isolates dermatophytes. Environmental strains were obtained Vanbreuseghem technique (1952), using soil samp...

Keratinase is a specific proteolytic enzyme that degrades keratin. has wide applications in global industries. Bacillus sp. MD24 been reported to produce keratinase by solid-state fermentation method using chicken feathers as sole substrate. Furthermore, production could be elevated adding biomass waste (sugarcane bagasse, tofu waste, or rice husk) feathers. However, the ratio of addition was u...

Abstract Poultry industry is expanding rapidly and producing million tons of feather waste annually. Massive production keratinaceous byproducts in the form industrial wastes throughout world necessitates its justified utilization. Chemical treatment keratin proclaimed as an eco-destructive approach by various researchers since it generates secondary pollutants. Keratinase released a variety mi...
