Study objective—To determine whether the use of subcutaneous local anaesthetic (lignocaine) is associated with a reduction in cannulation pain in the emergency department setting. Methods—Patients over 18 with a Glasgow Coma Score (GCS) of 15 and conversational English were allocated into one of three groups: Group 1 were cannulated after routine skin preparation; Group 2 received 1% lignocaine...
We have examined the effects of bupivacaine and lignocaine on myocardial metabolism in the rat isolated heart-lung preparation. Bupivacaine 1, 5 or 25 micrograms ml-1 or lignocaine 4, 20 or 100 micrograms ml-1 was administered 5 min after the start of perfusion. Both bupivacaine 25 micrograms ml-1 and lignocaine 100 micrograms ml-1 reduced heart rate significantly. Bupivacaine 25 micrograms ml-...
Use of vasoconstrictors in local anaesthesia is well known. The study was done on 30 patients who underwent removal of bilateral impacted third molars. The aim of the study was to compare the efficacy of lignocaine with clonidine and lignocaine with adrenaline in respect to onset, duration of anaesthesia, and postoperative analgesia along with hemodynamic stability (systolic blood pressure, dia...
Prolonged QT interval, atrioventricular block, and torsade de pointes after antiarrhythmic therapy MARTIN T ROTHMAN Lignocaine treatment is recommended for most patients with acute myocardial infarction admitted to a coronary care unit.' Electrocardiographic (ECG) abnormalities caused by toxic Prolongation of the QT intervalyt concentrations of lignocaine and other antiarrhythmic agents pointes...
Intravenous lignocaine (1.5 mg kg-1) was evaluated in patients undergoing intraocular surgery as a means of preventing the rise in intraocular pressure which accompanies tracheal intubation. In patients given either suxamethonium or pancuronium to facilitate tracheal intubation, lignocaine pretreatment conferred no benefit over placebo in preventing the intraocular hypertensive response.
In a randomised, double blind, controlled study the ability of 5% lignocaine ointment to reduce the behavioural response to heel lance in 30 healthy neonates was assessed. Five per cent lignocaine ointment applied to the heel under an occlusive dressing for one hour before heel prick did not reduce the infants' behavioural response to the heel prick procedure.
A 13 year old boy having idiopathic ventricular tachycardia had non-inducible tachycardia twice on electrophysiology (EP) study due to suppression of arrhythmia by local anaesthetic agent, lignocaine. This case report demonstrates a cause of non-inducibility or arrhythmia during EP study and effect of lignocaine in suppression of idiopathic ventricular tachycardia.
BACKGROUND Articaine in an anesthetic agent, which is used less frequently in dentistry. It differs from other agents due to the presence of a thiophene ring in its molecular structure. Few groups of researchers claim that it is superior to lignocaine. Hence, the purpose of this study was to compare the efficacy of 4% articaine hydrochloride and 2% lignocaine hydrochloride in the orthodontic ex...
OBJECTIVES To assess the cost-effectiveness of providing practical training to general practitioners (GPs) in shoulder problems, and administering a local anaesthetic (lignocaine) vs steroidal (cortisone) injection. METHODS A cost-effectiveness analysis conducted alongside a cluster randomized trial with a factorial design, in general practices across five centres within the UK. A total of 15...
AIM To study the effect of intracameral injection of preservative-free lignocaine to induce pupil dilatation, without using any preoperative dilating eyedrops or intraoperative mydriatics in patients with age-related cataract associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus. DESIGN This was a prospective, observational, and interventional case series conducted at a tertiary eyecare center in rural In...
