A patient with Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome and pulmonary arterial hypertension not associated with chronic thrombo-embolic pulmonary hypertension is described. It is hypothesised that pulmonary arterial hypertension is another complication associated with the Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome, possibly due to haemodynamic changes of small vessel abnormalities.

Background and purpose: Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a fatal disease affecting patients in all ages that could result in acute and chronic heart failure with high mortality rate. Oral sildenafil is approved to treat PAH in adults and recently in children. There are limited studies on the pharmacokinetics parameters of sildenafil, therefore, this study was designed to determine the p...

Pulmonary artery pressure elevation complicates the course of many complex disorders treated in a noncardiac intensive care unit. Acute pulmonary hypertension, however, remains underdiagnosed and its treatment frequently begins only after serious complications have developed. Significant pathophysiologic differences between acute and chronic pulmonary hypertension make current classification an...

BACKGROUND The incidence of pulmonary arterial hypertension secondary to the use of indirect serotinergic agonists such as aminorex and dexfenfluramine led to the "serotonin hypothesis" of pulmonary arterial hypertension; however, the role of serotonin in dexfenfluramine-induced pulmonary arterial hypertension remains controversial. Here, we used novel transgenic mice lacking peripheral seroton...

OBJECTIVE Evaluate the ability of clonidine to reduce pulmonary arterial pressure in patients with pulmonary hypertension undergoing heart surgery, either by reducing the pressure values from the direct measurement of pulmonary arterial pressure or by reducing or eliminating the need for intraoperative dobutamine and nitroprusside. METHOD Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, comparat...
