Serum copper and ceruloplasmin concentrations were determined in 180 normal male subjects and 44 female subjects, age 20 to 89 years. A small but significant increase (p < .025) in serum copper concentrations was observed with age in the male population; none was observed in the females. Serum ceruloplasmin concentrations failed to change with age in either group. In contrast with most previous...

This study investigated the association of copper and zinc levels in the serum or urine of patients living in northeast China, with either prediabetes or diabetes. From January 2010 to October 2011, patients with type 1 diabetes (T1D, n = 25), type 2 diabetes (T2D, n = 137), impaired fasting glucose (IFG, n = 12) or impaired glucose tolerance (IGT, n = 15), and age/gender matched controls (n = ...

Zinc and copper have important effects on T cell mediated immunity and on neutrophil function, but it is not known how the causes or effects, of low serum zinc and high serum copper relate to the clinical picture of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). In this study serum zinc and copper determined by flame atomic absorption spectrometry and 30 other clinical, immunological, and laboratory parameters in ...

Serum level of zinc, copper, β-carotene, vitamin A, and concentrations of Zn and Cu in hoof of 97multiparous Holstein dairy cows with different locomotion scores (LSs) were evaluated. Simultaneously, Znand Cu concentrations of close up, fresh and high yielding cattle rations were 77, 94, 75 and 31, 28, 22 ppm, respectively. Based on LSs, despite normal serum copper levels in all three groups, w...

Background: Pre-eclampsia along with its complications seems to be one of the major causes of maternal morbidity and mortality. Despite numerous studies, the etiology of pre-eclampsia has not yet been fully elucidated. According to recent studies changes in the level of blood trace elements can be an adverse event in human and animal pregnancy. The present study determines whether maternal seru...

BACKGROUND: The early stage of Copper poisoning is difficult to be clinically diagnosed in sheep and has not been documented clearly yet. OBJECTIVES: To assess biomarkers in predicting early Copper poisoning in sheep, blood samples were collected from several groups of animals from a naturally Copper poisoning occurrence in an industrial region. METHODS: Animals were divided into four experimen...

Serum and aqueous humour zinc and copper concentrations of 44 patients with glaucoma and cataract were determined. Serum values were found within normal ranges. The highest mean copper concentration was seen in the glaucoma group. In addition there was a significant negative correlation between the aqueous humour levels of zinc and copper in patients with glaucoma. It was concluded that an incr...

The serum concentrations of zinc and copper were measured in 50 patients with multiple sclerosis. Lower serum zinc levels were found compared to age- and sex-matched controls. In younger patients low serum copper concentrations were noted. Zinc concentrations in CSF were unchanged. The possibility that malabsorption of the metals causes the low serum concentrations is discussed.

Serum copper, serum caeruloplasmin, and urinary copper excretion were measured in 38 American patients (and 15 family members) with recessive, dominant, and X-linked forms of retinitis pigmentosa. No abnormalities were found, in contrast to the findings of a recent study on Indian patients. Our data argue against a role for copper metabolism in ordinary retinitis pigmentosa.

Serum and tissue copper concentration was determined in mice bearing induced fibrosarcoma after successful chemotherapeutic treatment. The results showed a significant depression in copper concentration in the serum and tumour tissue after treatment with anti-cancer drugs. However, the liver copper concentration showed no significant change in treated groups of mice compared to before treatment.
