Although repetition of prosody plays a significant role in children’s language development, few studies have investigated the interactional role of children’s use of boundary tones in talk-in-interaction. This study investigates the interaction between a two year old Korean child and her caretakers to describe the child’s ability to participate in building adjacency pair sequences using boundar...

The phase structure of an eight-fermion interaction model is investigated in a compact space-time with non-trivial topology, M⊗S. The phase boundary dividing the symmetric and the broken phase is shown as a function of the space-time dimensions. It is found that the eight-fermion interaction does not modify the phase boundary for the chiral symmetry breaking.

Teacher questions are claimed to be constitutive of classroom interaction because of their crucial role both in the construction of knowledge and the organization of classroom proceedings (Dalton Puffer, 2007). Most of previous research on teachers’ questions mainly focused on identifying and discovering different question types believed to be helpful in creating the opportunities for learners’...

A model of flow passing through the glottis is presented by employing the boundary-layer assumption. A thin boundary layer near the glottal wall influences the flow behavior in terms of the flow separation, jet formation, and pressure distribution along the channel. The integral momentum relation has been developed to analyze the boundary layer accurately, and it can be solved numerically for t...

In this paper we obtain the boundary state of a one dimensional mixed brane which makes angle with X 1-direction, in spacetime in which some of its directions are compactified on tori. Then we use of this boundary state for computing the interaction of two angled m 1-branes. Also we study the massless states contribution on this interaction.

A two-dimensional lattice spin model in statistical mechanics can be considered as solvable with periodic boundary conditions if its bulk Boltzmann weights satisfy the Yang-Baxter equation [1], and as additionally solvable with non-periodic boundary conditions if it admits boundary weights which satisfy the boundary Yang-Baxter equation [2]. Many such models are now known. Restricting our atten...

A popular approach to modeling bimolecular reactions between diffusing molecules is through the use of reactive boundary conditions. One common model is the Smoluchowski partial adsorption condition, which uses a Robin boundary condition in the separation coordinate between two possible reactants. This boundary condition can be interpreted as an idealization of a reactive interaction potential ...

This paper is concerned with an initial boundary value problem for strictly convex conservation laws whose weak entropy solution is in the piecewise smooth solution class consisting of finitely many discontinuities. By the structure of the weak entropy solution of the corresponding initial value problem and the boundary entropy condition developed by Bardos–Leroux–Nedelec, we give a constructio...

The interaction between a turbulent free-stream and a turbulent boundary layer is investigated through particle image velocimetry measurements. An ‘interaction layer’ located between 0.12 ≤ y/δ ≤ 0.19, at the end of the log layer, is identified whereby the kinetic energy in this layer describes the flow above it. Conditional averages about the interaction layer indicate that it is home to peaks...

The thesis presents an analysis of the continuous forcing approach of the immersed boundary method for the simulation of the interaction between uid and rigid particles in combination with the single relaxation lattice Boltzmann method. The immersed boundary method as a numerical algorithm is implemented in the context of two massively parallel software frameworks (waLBerla and pe) developed at...
