In this paper the concepts of manipulation as strategic voting (misrepresentation of true preferences) and strategic nomination (by adding, or removing alternatives) are investigated. The connection between Arrow’s and Gibbard-Satterthwaite theorems is discussed from the viewpoint of dilemma between dictatorship and manipulability.

No group-strategyproof and ex-post Pareto optimal randommatching mechanism treats equals equally. Every mechanism that arises out of the randomization over a set of non-bossy and strategyproof mechanisms is non-bossy. Random serial dictatorship, which arises out of the randomization over deterministic serial dictatorships is non-bossy but not group-strategyproof.

We report an experiment on three house allocation mechanisms under complete information: random serial dictatorship with squatting rights, and two variants of the top trading cycles mechanism. Results show that the latter two are significantly more efficient than the former. D 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

The Gibbard-Satterthwaite theorem states that every non-trivial voting method between at least 3 alternatives can be strategically manipulated. We prove a quantitative version of the Gibbard-Satterthwaite theorem: a random manipulation by a single random voter will succeed with non-negligible probability for every neutral voting method between 3 alternatives that is far from being a dictatorship.

The characters in Lord of the Flies possess recognizable symbolic significance, which make them as the sort of people around us. Ralph stands for civilization and democracy; Piggy represents intellect and rationalism; Jack signifies savagery and dictatorship; Simon is the incarnation of goodness and saintliness. All of these efficiently portray the microcosm of that society.

The narratives constructed by the Brazilian military dictatorship relied on different spaces and subjects as a way of establishing themselves. In this sense, hegemonic media was directly involved in practice dictatorship. However, narrative about is still dispute to objectives that were mobilized within certain events, which need be problematized. Thus, study aims investigate periodicals circul...

place is a part of geographical space and a base for establishment of social relations. each place is unique according to its specific properties, functions and history. meanwhile, some places find symbol identity due to their especial historical events and properties and this identity would be maintained in the minds and moved to the other generations. for example azadi tower in tehran and sav...

We consider the problem of repeatedly matching a set of alternatives to a set of agents in the absence of monetary transfer. We propose a generic framework for evaluating sequential matching mechanisms with dynamic preferences, and show that unlike single-shot settings, the random serial dictatorship mechanism is manipulable.

Abstract We propose a quantum voting system in the spirit of quantum games such as the quantum Prisoner’s Dilemma. Our scheme violates a quantum analogue of Arrow’s Impossibility Theorem, which states that every (classical) constitution endowed with three innocuous-seeming properties is a dictatorship. Superpositions, interference, and entanglement of votes feature in voting tactics available t...
