It is shown from the kinetics of inhibition of cholinesterase by N-methylcarbamates and organo-phosphates that the LD50 dose is likely to be a much greater multiple of the dose causing signs of poisoning in 50%-of the animals (the ED50) for the carbamates than for the organophosphates. The expected difference was demonstrated by a comparison of the LD50s and ED50s, intravenous and intramuscular...

It has been shown that several hydrolytic enzymes with different specificities undergo similar reactions with diisopropyl phosphorofluoridate (1) and other related toxic organophosphorus compounds (2). These conclusions were based on kinetic studies, particularly the influence of pH on the rates of reaction, and on inhibition characteristics. Reactions of this type have provided a unique method...

Serratia marcescens S2I7 is a heavy metal-resistant, polyaromatic hydrocarbon-degrading bacterium isolated from petroleum-contaminated sites. The genome contains one circular chromosome (5,241,555 bp; GC content 60.1%) with 4,533 coding sequences. The draft genome sequence includes specific genetic elements for degradation of hydrocarbons and for heavy metal resistance.

As a consequence of organophosphorus (OP) toxins posing a threat to human life globally, organophosphorus hydrolase (OPH) has become the enzyme of choice to detoxify such compounds. Organophosphorus hydrolase was covalently immobilized onto a quartz substrate for utilization in paraoxon detection. The substrate was cleaned and modified prior to chemical attachment. Each modification step was mo...

This study aimed to observe the clinical curative effect of penehyclidine hydrochloride (PHC) combined with hemoperfusion in treating acute severe organophosphorus pesticide poisoning. We randomly divided 61 patients with severe organophosphorus pesticide poisoning into an experimental group (N = 31) and a control group (N = 30), and we compared the coma-recovery time, mechanical ventilation ti...
