Digital stochastic measurement method implementation is considered from signal stationarity point of view. It is shown how conceptual block diagram for digital stochastic measurement of one Fourier coefficient can be simplified and used for developing conceptual block diagram for measuring predefined set of signal harmonics. Hardware of digital stochastic measurement block interfaced to recordi...

An accurate calibration of inertial measurement unit errors is increasingly important as the inertial navigation system requirements become more stringent. Developing calibration methods that use as less as possible of IMU signals has 6-DOF gimballed IMU in space-stabilized mode is presented. It is considered as held stationary in the test location incorporating 15 di...

this thesis attempts to investigate the effects of prelistening activities on enhancing iranian efl learners` listening comprehension. the present study investigated ways in which learners` background knowledge could be activated in order to enhance their l2 listening comprehension by limiting the number of possible text interpretations prior to listening. the experiments conducted in this study examined the effect of prior knowledge and vocabulary teaching on iranian efl learners listening comprehension. the current study has two purposes: one is to investigate the effect of background knowledge on the second language listening comprehension of iranian intermediates and the other is to determine whether second language is facilitated by the introduction of unknown vocabularies in the form of prelistening activities. to conduct the study different instruments such as listening proficiency test and four listening tests such as pre and posttests were used and various statistical processes and techniques including paired-sample t-test, and analysis of variance (anova) were used. the findings of this study supported all three hypotheses tested. differences were found between the means of preteaching vocabulary variable, the background knowledge activation variable, and mean difference between these two strategies variable. subjects scored higher when the unknown words were taught in advance. likewise, subjects scored higher when they were asked some relevant questions about the topic than on those without them. there was, in addition, a significant difference between the means of preteaching vocabulary strategy and background knowledge activation strategy. in fact, preteaching vocabulary had a better effect in enhancing the students’ listening comprehension, in comparison to background knowledge activation strategy.

Virtual instruments provide task-specific uncertainty evaluation in surface and dimensional metrology. We demonstrate the first virtual coherence scanning interferometer that can accurately predict results from measurements of surfaces with complex topography using a specific real instrument. The instrument is powered by physical models derived principles, including surface-scattering models, t...

For several years we have been studying the use of Fabry-Perot interferometers for precise measurement of the refractive index of gasses, where the primary motivation has been to improve interferometer-based length measurement. Because the refractive index of a gas depends on its pressure and temperature, we can also use refractive index to monitor either of these quantities if the second is kn...

Mapping and monitoring of forest carbon stocks across large areas in the tropics will necessarily rely on remote sensing approaches, which in turn depend on field estimates of biomass for calibration and validation purposes. Here, we used field plot data collected in a tropical moist forest in the central Amazon to gain a better understanding of the uncertainty associated with plot-level biomas...

noise exposure is one of the main problems in petroleum industry. petroleum in dustry is a strategic industry in iran with large number of workers whom are exposed to different noise sources. identification and evaluation of this noise sources and reducing excessive noises are big issues in petroleum industry from point of occupational health. this descriptive-analytic study was performed in th...

The measurement of information emitted by sources with uncertainty of random type is known and investigated in many works. This paper aims to contribute to analogous treatment of information connected with messages from other uncertain sources, influenced by not only random but also some other types of uncertainty, namely with imprecision and vagueness. The main sections are devoted to the char...

Daniel Abramovitch Hewlett-Packard Laboratories 1501 Page Mill Road, M/S 2U-10 Palo Alto, CA 94304 Abstract– This paper describes the PES Pareto Method, a useful tool for identifying and eliminating key contributors to uncertainty in the Position Error Signal (PES) of a magnetic disk drive[1, 2, 3]. Once identified and ranked according to their overall effect on PES, the top–ranking sources can...
