seizure is a rare presentation for acute hemolysis due to g6pd deficiency. we report a previously healthy boy who presented initially with seizure and cyanosis and subsequently acute hemolysis, due to glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (g6pd) and probably secondary methemoglobinemia, following the ingestion of fava beans.

ABSTRACT Glucose -6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD)deficiency is the most common inheritory enzyme defect in human. With this deficiency, red blood cells are susceptible to hemolysis induced by oxidants .Drage and foods (esp. fava beans) are the most common oxidants that cause acute hemolysis (Favism). Vitamin E.that is an potent antioxidant, was studied in chronic hemolysis of these patients. ...

This is a study on 62 G6PD patients hospitalized in Bahrami hospital between 1993 to 1995. Favea was the oxidant agent causing acute hemolysis in more than 90 percent of patients. Most of acute hemolysis occurred in spring, the season of high consumption of favea. More than 60 percent of patients had moderate to severe hemolysis with Hb less than 7 gr/dL. According to WHO reports, the incidence...

BACKGROUND The aim was to reveal the mechanism of hemolysis-induced acute pancreatitis and to evaluate the role of heme and heme oxygenase activity in inducing pancreatic inflammation in an experimental hemolysis model. MATERIAL/METHODS Hemolytic anemia was induced in rats by intraperitoneal injection of 60 mg/kg acetylphenylhydrazine (APH). To evaluate the toxic effect of free heme after hem...

Purpose: The purpose of the article is to determine effectiveness use perfluorocarbon gas vehicles in acute, severe anemia animals caused by external blood loss and autoimmune intravascular hemolysis. Methodology: transport agents hemolysis was carried out based on assessment lethality groups, biochemical criteria that were determined using an automatic analyzer hematocrit, which a general clin...

BACKGROUND Immune thrombocytopenic purpura and secondary thrombocytopenia patients treated with Rh(o)(D) immune globulin intravenous (human; anti-D IGIV) have experienced acute hemolysis, which is inconsistent with the typical presentation of extravascular hemolysis -- the presumed mechanism of action of anti-D IGIV. Although the mechanism of anti-D-IGIV-associated acute hemolysis has not been ...

The literature indicates that acute pancreatitis is a complication of massive hemolysis with a prevalence of about 20%. We describe an experimental model of hemolysis-induced acute pancreatitis. Hemolytic anemia was induced in rats by a single ip injection of 60 mg/kg of 20 mg/ml acetylphenylhydrazine (APH) in 20% (v/v) ethanol on the first experimental day (day 0). One hundred and fifty Wistar...

Background: Storage of platelet concentrates (PCs) at room temperature (20-24°C) limits its storage time to 5 Background: Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency is the most common inherited enzyme deficiency of the human red blood cells . Most of G6PD deficient individuals are asymptomatic, but acute hemolytic anemia may be presented with nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, headache,...

Evans syndrome (ES) is a rare autoimmune disorder whose exact pathophysiology is unknown. It is characterized by the simultaneous or subsequent development of autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA) and immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). Intravascular hemolysis, with hemoglobinemia, is known to produce acute kidney injury; however, the development of intratubular hemoglobin casts (hemoglobin cast nephro...

Background: Glucose-6 phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency is the most common inherited enzyme deficiency of red blood cells involving the enzyme pathway of hexose monophosphate. This study was conducted to examine the effect of vitamin E and folic acid on the improvement of acute hemolysis caused by the G6PD deficiency in patients referred to 17 Shahrivar Hospital, Rasht. Materials and M...
