Fusarium is a fungus that is commonly found as saprophytes with parasitic life on some living organisms. Mycoprotein or fungus proteins with physical and chemical features are known as food in recent years. When they are involved in temperature and wet stress, release materials such as mycotoxins or fungus toxins remained in food. Zearalenone and dependent compounds have distinct role in many f...

Background and purpose: In Iran, wheat is one of the main cereals for human consumption. Wheat grains containing zearalenone can cause genital problems and reproductive disorders in domestic animals. In human, episodes of breast enlargement in young boys and sexual precocity have been reported. This toxin may therefore have a role in hormonal balance and mammary cancer in regions with high ze...

Grains from 14 corn inbreds and 4 single cross hybrids were inoculated with 3 isolates of Gibberella zeae to determine their inhibition of zearalenone production. The corn hybrids: Pa762 x A632 (50 mg/kg zearalenone production), A619 x A632 (17 mg/kg zearalenone production), H95 x Mo17 (132 mg/kg zearalenone production), and B73 x MO17 (33 mg/kg zearalenone production) appear to have less resis...

In the present study, a quantitative dietary exposure assessment of mycotoxins and their masked forms was conducted on a national representative sample of the Belgian population using the contamination data of cereal-based foods. Cereal-based food products (n=174) were analysed for the occurrence of deoxynivalenol, 3-acetyldeoxynivalenol, 15-acetyldeoxynivalenol, zearalenone, α-zearalenol, β-ze...

Ten metabolites of Fusarium species (butenolide, diacetoxyscirpenol, equisetin, fusaric acid, gibberellic acid, moniliformin, NRRL 6227 peptide, T-2 toxin, vomitoxin, and zearalenone) were added to the drinking water of mice to determine whether they were consumed or refused. Of the 10, only the trichothecenes--diacetoxyscirpenol, T-2 toxin, and vomitoxin--were refused. Refusal of 2 mg of the t...

Background : Zearalenone is an estrogenic mycotoxin produced by several Fusarium species and is of particular interest because of its widespread occurrence and strong estrogenic effects. Wheat and its flour is amongst the most important food and feeds sources that may become contaminated with zearalenone. Therefore, this study was carried out to determine the zearalenone concentration in wheat ...

the contamination of cereals with toxic secondary metabolites of fungi, mycotoxins, is a permanent challenge in human health. these toxins are produced by a few fungi are mainly of the genera fusarium , aspergillus and penicillium . ochratoxin a is a nephrotoxic mycotoxin, which possesses carcinogenic, teratogenic, immunotoxic and possibly neurotoxic properties. zearalenone is a non-steroidal e...

Thirty-three samples of wheat of the 1982 crop year from Kansas and Nebraska were analyzed for deoxynivalenol, T-2 toxin, zearalenone, and aflatoxin. Deoxynivalenol was identified in 31 of 33 samples, zearalenone was identified in 3 of 33 samples, and aflatoxin B1 was identified in 23 of 31 samples. One 1982 wheat sample from Illinois and one from Texas were also contaminated with deoxynivaleno...

Four strains of Butyrivibrio fibrisolvens did not degrade aflatoxin B1. Acetyl T-2 toxin, T-2 toxin, HT-2 toxin, deoxynivalenol, diacetoxyscirpenol, verrucarin A, zearalenone, and ochratoxin A did not affect the specific growth rate of B. fibrisolvens CE51 significantly, but all were degraded to greater or lesser extents. Breakdown products were produced as a result of deacetylation reactions.
